As a Roadway Section Project Engineer, you will work with a skilled team of engineers and engineering technicians responsible for pavement and sidewalk monitoring, repair, and maintenance, street trees maintenance, right-of-way management and inspections. Your work will directly contribute to the quality of life in Hillsboro, making our streets safe, more efficient and accessible for everyone.
Position Overview:
As a Roadway Engineer, you will be at the forefront of preparing and reviewing roadway projects that enhance mobility and safety of our community. This is an exciting opportunity to advance your skills in public sector contracting, budget development, leadership, and community engagement. Cross-department collaboration is key in this role, and you will have the opportunity to work within groups across the City including Permitting, GIS, Economic and Community Development, and Information Services, Capital Programs, and Traffic Engineering.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain professional and collaborative relationships with staff, community, partner agencies, and contractors
- Develop, manage, and inspect paving and flatwork contracts
- Prepare and review engineering plans for roadway and sidewalk maintenance, infrastructure improvements, and permits
- Ensure compliance with code requirements; updating the Design and Construction Standards as needed
- Assist data collection and assessment using a combination of field work, GIS mapping, and asset management tools
- Use the City’s StreetSaver pavement management software to track maintenance needs, model pavement deterioration over time, and develop budget documents
- Respond to community concerns regarding sidewalk hazards and street tree maintenance
- Develop the next phase of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)Transition Plan to build and update ADA ramps
- Lead investigations of technologies to improve asset reporting, innovative pavement maintenance treatments, and low carbon concrete
- Learn and use the StreetSaver pavement management software to track maintenance needs and develop budget documents
- This position requires work in the office and in the field, including walking, driving, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Field work may required in all weather

- Create workplan to maintain facilities parking lots and sidewalks
JOB QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field; and four years of civil engineering design, project management, or surveying experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
LICENSE(S) / CERTIFICATIONS:
- Oregon Professional Engineer License
- Valid, current Driver’s License and safe driving record
Note: Candidates who do not currently possess an Oregon Professional Engineer license may be considered for the position of Engineering Associate. Successful candidates in this role will have the opportunity for promotion to Project Engineer upon obtaining their PE license.
