Position Overview
The Senior Parks and Recreation Manager will oversee three key program areas: the Jackson Bottom Wetlands Preserve, the Gordon Faber Recreation Complex, and Recreation & Sports programs across the City of Hillsboro. This position includes direct supervision of three reports and collaboration with supervisors and staff responsible for programming in schools, recreation centers, and outdoor spaces.
You will play a pivotal role in the upcoming transition to the new Hillsboro Hops Ballpark, managing relationships with Hops leadership, facilitating the transition from the original Hillsboro Ballpark, and identifying opportunities for expanded programming and events. In this role, you will lead with trust and transparency, fostering a culture of collaboration, creativity, and innovation among staff and stakeholders. With a focus on strategic growth and intentional programming, this position will evaluate opportunities to deepen connections with community partners, expand shared-use agreements with schools, and meet the evolving needs of our community.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee operations at the Gordon Faber Recreation Complex, including event programming, maintenance, and the transition to the new Hillsboro Hops Ballpark.
Manage Recreation & Sports programs, including collaboration with schools and onsite programming at facilities like Tyson Recreation Center and Outdoors In.
Lead strategic planning for expanding community partnerships and shared-use agreements to enhance access to sports fields and recreation spaces, encouraging creative problem-solving and innovative approaches to meet community needs.
Supervise and support direct reports, empowering them to thrive in a dynamic and evolving environment.
Develop and manage program budgets, ensuring financial sustainability and strategic resource allocation.
Champion a culture of dignity, respect, and inclusion, fostering a team environment where all staff feel valued.

- Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Management, Public Administration, or a related field.
- A minimum of 7 years of experience in parks and recreation management, including 2 years in a supervisory capacity.

Licenses/Certifications
- Valid driver’s license with a clean record.
- CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications (or ability to obtain them within three months).

Work Schedule
This is an in-office position. The selected candidate will work onsite five days a week during a 6-month onboarding process. The typical schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM with occasional after-hours work. The City of Hillsboro prioritizes work-life balance and minimizes after-hours requirements.
