Public Works is currently looking for an entry-level Maintenance & Operations (M&O) Technician to join our Storm & Sanitary Sewer Division! What You Will Be Doing
The principal function of an employee in this class is to perform basic routine maintenance and/or operational activities in assigned area of responsibility. Duties as assigned may include providing customer service; performing routine maintenance and repair of equipment, infrastructure, and/or related items; operating motorized vehicles and equipment; inputting data into computerized systems; and preparing logs and records.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead or assist with the Inspection, maintenance, and repair of various utilities such as underground utilities including. pipelines, manholes, and many other storm and sanitary sewer assets.
- Operate street sweepers, combination cleaner equipment, CCTV inspection equipment, etc.
- Provide afterhours emergency response, and extended shifts as needed as a first responder. Drive and operate heavy vehicles used in maintenance and construction such as dump trucks, tractors, front-end loaders, backhoe, excavators, CCTV inspection vans, Combination Cleaners (Vactor), and light and medium sized utility trucks.
- Provide great customer service to our community members while working in a field environment that consists of residential, and commercial customers.
- Ensure federal, state, and local permit requirements are met through performing routine maintenance to the city's utilities.

- Underground Repair and installation of Sanitary Sewer System Pipeline, and Structures
- CCTV Inspection of stormwater assets
- Vegetation Management
- Street Sweeping
- Work-Zone Traffic Control & Special Events, and Inclement Weather Response (shared task in all Public Works Divisions)
Qualities of a Successful Candidate
M&O Technicians should aspire to be great leaders, great teachers, energetic and enjoy working primarily outdoors. Excellent customer service and a very strong sense of serving our community members is a must for all successful candidates. Successful candidate(s) should have knowledge of light and heavy construction techniques, hand and power tools, equipment operation, and understanding and interpreting schematics, plans, drawings, etc. Knowledge of maintenance management software systems, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) mapping interpretation is also desired.
Acceptable Experience and Training
High School Diploma or GED and 1 year of related work experience for Maintenance Operations Technician, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
Required Certifications
Class A CDL w/ appropriate endorsement(s) within one year of hire, including the following endorsements:
Air brake endorsement
Tanker endorsement
Preferred Qualifications
- PACP Inspection License
- Oregon DEQ Wastewater level I/II
- Work Zone Traffic Control Certification
- Forklift Certification, CPR & First Aid Certification
- Incident Command System ICS levels 100, 200, 700
- Bilingual skill preferred but not required. This position interacts with many different community members as a front-line field employee. These skills are very valuable in taking in feedback and providing context as to the work being performed in our neighborhoods.
