Description
Perform on-site inspections of residential and commercial construction for compliance with approved plans, specifications and applicable local, state and national codes, regulations and standards governing construction, alteration, and repair of structural system in building. Involves scheduling initial and follow-up inspections.
Essential Duties
- Reviews and approves plans, specifications, and standards according to the International Building Codes.
- Issues red tags, correction notices, stop work orders, and citations as appropriate when construction does not conform to code or approved plans.
- Makes recommendations for changes and assists in the success of those changes for completion of inspection activities.
- Enters and maintains inspection records and prepares monthly reports.
- Reviews requests for and issues building permits to licensed general contractors for commercial use and to general contractors and homeowners for residential use.
- Review and process permit applications; accepts payments for permits; enters inspections, corrections and comments in Permitting Software.
- Assists in researching problems and complaints regarding commercial and residential buildings, construction, and code compliance.
- Explains, interprets, and provides guidance regarding applicable codes and permits to general public, architects, engineers, contractors and developers or refers to the appropriate source.
Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED equivalent required. Four years' experience in construction trade works or supervisory level building trade experience required. Associate degree in Construction Technology, Engineering / Architectural Technology, or related field preferred.
