Manage and supervise assigned aquatic facilities and aquatics staff; plan, organize workloads and staff assignments; train, motivate and evaluate assigned staff; review progress and direct changes as needed. 

  • Regular attendance is required to perform the duties of this position. 
  • Prepare daily deposits and reports that align with City of Hobbs cash handling policies. Communicate plans, policies and procedures to staff and the general public. 
  • Issue written and oral instructions.
  • Assign duties and examine work for exactness, neatness and conformance to policies and procedures. 
  • Maintain harmony among workers and resolves grievances. 
  • Perform or assist subordinates in performing duties.
  • Prepare daily attendance, accident and routine accounting reports. 
  • Oversee the enforcement of safety rules and regulations and the patrolling of the pools.  Supervise classes and activities for persons engaged in aquatic programs and co-sponsored programs. 
  • Perform a variety of miscellaneous duties such as answering phones, typing correspondence, purchasing supplies as needed. 
  • Coordinate, schedule and maintain related records and statistics for aquatic programs. 
  • Help maintain water quality of all aquatic facilities. 
  • When needed, monitor pool chemicals and circulation levels and adjusts as necessary. Inspects and assures seasonal pool areas present no health or accident hazards to users. Assist in the evaluation of other personnel.
  • Work as a lifeguard and swim lesson instructors as needed. 
  • Help with weekly lifeguard in-service. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:


Graduation from High School or GED with two years of experience in aquatics field as a lifeguard, swim lesson instructor, pool maintenance or manager.

Listen with comprehension and communicate accurately, clearly, and concisely to facilitate an efficient operation.

Comply with safety rules and appropriately maintain and use equipment and material.

Maintain confidentiality of matters relating to the City at all times.

Maintain insurability and operate city vehicles in accordance with insurance policy.

Demonstrate self-initiative in performing routine tasks as in accordance with standard operating procedures and standard operating guidelines. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, participants, agency partners and the general public. 

Ability to follow written and oral instructions; Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; Ability to plan and supervise the work and participation of paid staff and patrons.

Knowledge of technical pool operations, plumbing, chemicals, pumps and filtration systems.

Ability to work in confined spaces.

Ability to work overtime and be on call.

Ability to multi-task and prioritize duties/assignments with a high degree of attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.

Ability to work some evenings, weekends, and holidays as required with Community Affairs Board Meetings and assisting with Recreation Department events/activities. 


LICENSING AND CERTIFICATIONS


Current certification in First Aid C.P.R., Lifeguarding, or have the ability to obtain American Red Cross Lifeguarding and First Aid C.P.R with in the first month of hire. 

Valid Driver's License.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to walk, sit, swim, talk or hear.  The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to balance, stoop, kneel and crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.   The employee must frequently lift small amounts of weight in demonstrating proper weight lifting procedures and techniques. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.


WORK ENVIRONMENT


The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions.  The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals. 

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet while in the office and moderately loud when in the field.
