Preferred Qualifications
- Three (3) years or more of professional experience working with First Responders
- Experience with identification and management of post-traumatic stress disorder
Responsibilities
- Facilitates City initiatives in the areas of behavioral health, substance abuse, and homelessness
- Works with community partners to identify community health resources
- Designs policies and processes related to City wide mental health responses
- Plans, organizes, and directs City mental health activities
- Analyzes and evaluates the operations and services of mental health and substance abuse programs
- Works with City leadership to identify mental health and substance abuse needs in the City
- Provides onsite counseling services during critical incidents
- Transports individuals as needed
- Maintains state certification requirements
- Performs training for the Police Department, Fire Department and 911
- Assists in assessing, monitoring and follow-up of individuals with mental health issues
- Monitors Residential Group Home consumers
- Responds to the request of law enforcement officers/Hoover staff by phone or at the scene when the officer/staff person has reasonable cause to believe the person within the city is mentally ill and is likely to be in immediate danger to self and/or others.
- Makes assessments of persons believed to be mentally ill to determine the need for short-term hospitalization/treatment and locate and arrange inpatient care
- Facilitates communication between hospital, family and probate court to include filing of a commitment petition if necessary
- Notifies Probate Judge of person under 72 hour hold for treatment as reasonably possible
- Assist individuals who are determined not to meet the criteria for being held at a designated mental facility under Alabama Law
- Assists in identifying, monitoring and follow up of individuals believed to be a threat to themselves and/or others due to mental health issue
- Coordinates adequate coverage for services during absence from the city
- Performs other duties as directed
