Description
Performs skilled technical work inspecting City contracted projects and utility construction within the public right-of-way and easements for compliance with specifications and plans, record keeping, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under general direction.
Examples of Duties
- Performs inspections of infrastructures such as streets, sidewalks, drainage systems, and rights-of-way for City Capital Improvement Projects (CIP), City commercial developments, and utility capital improvement projects for compliance with standard details, specifications, and approved project plans.
- Reviews plans, specifications, estimates, and contracts for capital improvement construction projects.
- Inspects site plan developments for conformance with City and Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) specifications and guidelines.
- Prepares and maintains detailed inspection records, plans, and reports. Reconciles quantities with contractors and plans. Creates and maintains as-builts and red-line plans. Maintains materials notebook and ensures compliance with QAP as required.
- Maintains records on warranty of utility and contracted projects; prepares construction-related correspondence to contractors, developers, and City employees.
- Inspects utility street cuts and makes necessary contacts with utility contractors regarding compliance with city codes and requirements.
- Provides support and technical services such as grade checks and calculations for Public Works and contracted projects.
- Receives and responds to inquiries and complaints from citizens regarding construction projects.
- Reviews and approves utility and sewer connection permits.
- Other duties as assigned.
