What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seasonal Maintenance Worker position at City of Hopkins?
Performs various types of manual labor and operates light equipment in the maintenance of City streets, parks, engineering, and utilities.
Parks
- Operate grass mowers and trimmers to trim around trees, landscape beds, signs and buildings.
- Participate in maintenance of baseball, football, soccer and other playing fields and facilities.
- Prune trees, shrubs and pull weeds other vegetation around parks and recreational areas.
- Clean restrooms and park buildings, and empty trash cans.
- Operation, service and maintenance of a variety of tools and equipment such as mowers, seeders, sprayers, spreaders, tractors, hand tools and other equipment.
Streets
- Assist with concrete and black top work on the street.
- Assist with crosswalk painting.
- Perform traffic control.
- Custodial assistance in the shop where vehicles are stored.
- Wash vehicles and equipment.
- Pick up trash.
- Maintain and change yard waste bags.
- Perform tree trimming and weed whipping around the street and boulevard.
Forestry
- Pull and pile brush.
- Prune vegetation using equipment.
- Operate a wood chipper.
- Clean worksite after job is complete with shovel/rake.
- Mulch and water trees.
- Ability to lift 75 pounds.
Tree Watering
- Valid Minnesota Class D Driver's License.
- Drive a 1 ton truck with water tank.
- Water trees according to schedule.
- Attention to detail.
- Self-motivated.
- Light mechanic skills preferred.
Utilities
- Hours: Monday through Friday 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
- Valid Minnesota Class D Driver's License.
- Assist with sewer televising.
- Perform sewer maintenance.
- Perform building maintenance
- Operate grass mowers and trimmers.
Yard Waste Site Attendant
- Hours: Monday and Wednesday 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Saturday 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
- Check in residence at gate.
- Direct customers where to dump tree or yard waste or pick up dirt and mulch.
- Maintain site security.
- Perform custodial duties and pick up trash.
- Performing opening and closing duties.
Engineering
- Inspect right-of-way permits for compliance and closeout.
- Assist with right-of-way permit and GIS data entry.
- Assist with field verification of GIS data.
- Administrative support.
General
- Follows safety rules and procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- At least 16 years old by May 1, 2025. Some positions must be at least 18 years old.
- Some positions require a valid Minnesota Class D Driver's License.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Previous experience in Public Works.
Experience performing manual labor.
Experience operating equipment.
Experience in building and lawn maintenance.
