ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:
- Conducts field investigations and surveillance of disease and bioterrorism related activities and is available twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week to respond to suspected outbreaks.
- Collects, evaluates, and analyzes data from investigations and surveillances. Presents findings and compiles reports for review by the supervisor and manager.
- Conducts research and reviews of pertinent literature, writes formal reports, and submits study and surveillance data to relevant national periodicals for publication.
- Analyzes trend indicators of potential emergency public health events.
- Represents the Epidemiology Bureau in meetings and communications with committees, task forces, assigned facilities and other organizations to encourage timely disease reporting and promote other interests of the Bureau/Department.
- Conducts investigations into the mitigation of clusters, outbreaks and other unusual expressions of disease.
- Conducts routine investigations of communicable diseases, such as HIV, sexually transmitted diseases, or bioterrorism-related activities under surveillance.
- Interviews patients/clients, and contacts medical providers.
- Collects and transports biological specimens and abstracts medical records.
- Performs other duties and special projects as assigned by supervisor.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Epidemiology or in Public Health with emphasis in Epidemiology or related biological, medical or public health fields.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Two years of progressively responsible professional experience in public health or health care are required.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
None.
SUBSTITUTION:
A Master’s degree in Epidemiology or in Public Health with emphasis in Epidemiology may substitute for the experience requirement on a year-for-year basis.
PREFERENCES
**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**
- Preference for individual with 1-2 years of work experience in Epidemiology and or disease surveillance and intervention and prevention.
- Prefer individuals who display strong competencies in customer service as well as oral and written communication.
- Preference for individual with expertise in data analysis, visualization, and interpretation.

Grants & Special funded positions are dependent upon continued available funds. If funding is no longer available, employee may be laid off or transferred. Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification.
