DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Houston Public Works Department is seeking candidates who can:
- Develop, review and comply with standard procedures and task where analytic ability is required.
- Coordinate plant operations utilizing Human Machine Interface (HMI) in conjunction with the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system.
- Monitor and maintain equipment and the surface water treatment plant, and reports malfunctions to expedite repairs.
- Monitor mechanical and chemical process in more than one location.
- Inspect and test working conditions on all equipment.
- Compare readings on equipment and processes with established operational ranges to evaluate system performance. Initiates system changes within established guidelines that affect process control.
- Collects, analyzes and monitors data relevant to maintaining efficient treatment plant operations.
- Communicates and coordinates work with other operators and support personnel by telephone and e-mail.
- Performs other duties as requested.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The position requires lifting of heavy items of up to 60 pounds and/or walking on rough surfaces routinely and/or regular physical exertion such as climbing of ladders.
This is a Department of Public Works & Engineering Emergency Management position at the Tier 1 Level.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a high school diploma or GED certificate.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Two years of plant operations experience are required.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Requires a valid Texas driver's license and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving.
Requires a valid Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) Class "C" Water or Wastewater Operator's certificate Level II requires a valid TCEQ Class “B” Water or Wastewater Operator’s certificate. Certificates must be appropriate to position location, such as surface water, groundwater, distribution, or wastewater treatment.
PREFERENCES
Preference will be given to the applicants who have experience in operation of large surface water treatment plants by utilizing a SCADA.
**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**
