POSITION OVERVIEW

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Inspects various types of civil construction including paving and storm sewer for compliance with technical specifications and contract documents and records the field activities in the Daily Construction Report. Coordinates construction activities with contractors and construction management team, prioritizing time to assure the most important tasks are covered daily. Attends various meetings to provide status updates, identity problem areas and recommend solutions. Monitor testing lab activities, investigates customer complaints and maintains contract document files. Monitor contractor’s work zones and sites to ensure that all safety procedures and guidelines are followed. Researches and evaluates plans, specifications and drawings.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position routinely requires lifting of moderately heavy items, such as typewriters or records boxes (up to 40 pounds) and/or very long periods of walking on rough surfaces on routine basis. There is routine discomfort from exposure to moderate heat, cold, moisture/wetness and unpleasant air conditions. The position may involve routine exposure to soiled materials and light chemical substances such as cleaning solution.
This is a Houston Public Works Department Emergency Management position at the Tier I Level.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a high school diploma/GED, and up to 18 months of education or training in the area of inspection to be performed.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Two (2) years of journey level experience related to the area of inspection to be performed.
MINIMUM LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Valid Texas Driver's License and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving.

**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**
