    The Office of Talent & Organizational Development (OT&OD) is a division of the City of Houston's Human Resources Department. Our mission is to build a first-class responsive and results-oriented workforce by providing learning that meets critical business goals and lifelong learning opportunities that will prepare employees in an evolving technological society. The Office of Talent & Organizational Development (OT&OD) is seeking a dynamic and experienced professional to serve as a Training Coordinator . In this critical role, you will lead the coordination, delivery, and implementation of comprehensive training and learning programs across various disciplines, including leadership development, technical training, compliance, and professional development. You will ensure that programs meet organizational goals, enhance employee performance, and support the City's strategic objectives. As a member of the Training Team, you will play an active role in inspiring learners to build and experiment with new mindsets, skillsets, and toolsets for various stages of their career.

    The Training Coordinator will be responsible for :

  • Oversee the planning, execution, and evaluation of multiple training and learning programs, including leadership, technical, compliance, and professional development initiatives.
  • Deliver high-impact, learner-centered training sessions using in-person, virtual, and hybrid modalities to engage diverse audiences.
  • Collaborate with instructional designers and subject matter experts to design and update training content that aligns with adult learning principles and industry best practices.
  • Partner with internal teams, department leaders, and external vendors to align training initiatives with organizational goals.
  • Collaborating with the Organizational Development Team to design and facilitate ad hoc learning solutions.
  • Conduct thorough needs analyses to identify skill gaps and develop targeted learning interventions.
  • Leverage learning technologies, such as LMS platforms, e-learning tools, and virtual collaboration software, to enhance program delivery and accessibility.
  • Developing and monitoring project plans and timelines to seamlessly implement multi-session training programs.
  • Maintaining training program documentation as required by internal practices and processes.
  • Encouraging a safe learning environment rooted in adult learning theories.
  • Stay current with industry trends and incorporate innovative approaches to training and development.
  • Meeting individual performance metrics and goals while demonstrating behavior-based competencies.
  • Collaborating with the Office of Talent & Organizational Development team members in the pursuit of the overall mission.

    There are no major sources of discomfort, i.e., essentially normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature and air conditions.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

    Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Education, Instructional Design, Psychology, Organizational Development, or a related field.

    EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

    Four years of professional personnel experience involving training in a formal classroom and / or the development of curriculum and lesson plans for adult learners are required.

    Pertinent training experience at the professional level may be substituted for the above educational requirement on a year-for-year basis

    PREFERENCES

    Highly qualified candidates will have :

  • Expertise in developing and delivering leadership programs, soft skills, or technical trainings.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
  • Advanced degree or certifications (e.g., APTD, CPTD, or SHRM) preferred.
  • Proficiency in data analytics to assess training effectiveness.
  • Knowledge of public sector training and workforce development initiatives.
  • Proven track record of managing end-to-end training programs, including leadership development or compliance training.
  • Familiarity with adult learning principles, instructional design models (e.g., ADDIE, SAM), and evaluation frameworks (e.g., Kirkpatrick Model).
  • Experience in using learning technologies, such as LMS platforms (e.g., Cornerstone, SuccessFactors).
  • Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.
