The Houston Public Works Department is seeking candidates who can perform functions in the planning, organization, and evaluation of electrical and support services activities at the City of Houston.
Supervises electrical maintenance of the Plants facilities and grounds. Interviews and recommends selection of new employees, completes performance appraisals, recommends disciplinary and/or performance counseling as appropriate; ensures consistent application of personnel policies and procedures. Administers departmental policies and procedures relative to operational and personnel activities. Coordinates site specific maintenance activities with outside contractors, City departments, etc. Prepares periodic budget estimates and operational reports as required and/or requested. Ensures preventative/corrective maintenance tasks are carried out in timely and efficient manner. Responds to emergency calls for electrical issues. Other duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS
There are occasional minor discomforts from exposure to less-than-optimal temperature and air conditions. The position may involve dealing with modestly unpleasant situations, as with occasional exposure to office chemicals and/or extensive use of a video display terminal.
This is a Department of Public Works & Engineering Emergency Management position at the Tier I Level.
Requires a high school degree or a GED certificate. Requires successful completion of an apprentice electrician program approved by the Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training or the equivalent as recognized by the Electrical Safety and Licensing Advisory Board.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Six years of journey-level experience in the area of work to be performed, either as an inside electrician or outside lineman, are required.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
A valid State of Texas Journeyman Electrician License is required.
However, the department may administer a skills assessment test.

This position is subject to random drug testing and if a promotional position, candidate must pass an assignment drug test.
