DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Provides basic maintenance and repair to structures, facilities, and equipment to ensure a safe and clean environment. Performs basic maintenance and repairs to structures, facilities, and equipment, i.e., housekeeping activities, fabrication and installations, routine cleaning and servicing of vehicles, and cement mixing and preparation. Operates power and hand tool equipment. May operate vehicles to and from work locations. Monitors inventory control. Performs additional miscellaneous assignments as required.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The position involves considerable physical exertion, such as regular climbing of ladders, lifting of heavy objects (up to 80 pounds) on a highly frequent basis and/or assuming awkward positions for long periods of time.
This is a Houston Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier I Level.EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Very fundamental levels of the ability to read, write and follow simple oral instructions as might normally be acquired through up to 8 years of formal schooling.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
No experience is required.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
A valid Texas Class C driver's license and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving (AP 2-2).**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6. **SELECTION/SKILLS TESTS REQUIRED
The selection process will involve application review and/or interview. Department may administer skills assessment test.
