DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Essential job duties include:
- Assist customers at the customer service desks to find materials, use technology, and learn about library services.
- Enjoy working with youth of all ages to create quality experiences for them and their families.
- Cooperatively design, plan and execute innovative services and programming for youth of all ages including early literacy programs, crafts, after school programming and book clubs.
- Display knowledge of youth literature and resources.
- Develop and nurture strong collaborative relationships with schools and other the local community groups.
- May serve as the person in charge in the absence of the manager and assistant manager.
- Work evenings and weekends (Saturday and Sundays) on a rotating basis.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Position requires stooping and bending; lifting of library materials up to 20 pounds. Must be able to move freely throughout the library to file/retrieve library materials. Must be able to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
Requires a Master of Library Science degree from a school accredited by American Library Association (ALA). No experience is required.
OR
Requires a Bachelor's degree plus 18 hours toward a Master of Library Science degree from a school accredited by ALA and one (1) year of professional library experience. A Master of Library Science must be completed within two (2) years from being hired into this classification.

PREFERENCES
**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**- Experience in library programming
- Comfortable working with diverse populations.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to motivate, develop, train and direct staff in a collaborative team environment.
- Knowledge of current trends in library services to youth and their parents and caregivers.
- Experience using the MS Office Suite and knowledge of electronic devices such as e-readers and tablets and other technologies.
- Bilingual (Spanish and English) preferred.

Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification.
