About our Department:
The primary goal of Huntsville Fire & Rescue is to serve the public by protecting life, property and the environment. Support staff play a vital role in keeping the daily administrative operations organized and communication going within the department and other fire personnel.
Fire Services Equipment and Support Technician Position Overview:
This is technical and store work involving responsibility for a storeroom facility, maintenance and repair of fire service equipment, procurement of specialized equipment and inventory management. Work involves responsibility for a wide variety of specialized fire service equipment such as protective clothing and breathing equipment, hose, extinguishers, Hurst extraction tools and specialized equipment used on fire apparatus. Work responsibilities include establishing storage methods and procedures, identifying sources of supply and obtaining competitive quotes, maintaining inventory records, and arranging for repair of equipment that can be restored to use disposal of retired equipment. Work is reviewed through inspection of stock records and effectiveness in maintaining adequate supply levels. Maintains turnout gear and other safety issued equipment, generators, fire nozzles, air packs, air compressors, exercise equipment, thermal imaging cameras and equipment, fire hose, gas and battery-operated tools, extrication and rescue equipment, hand lights and other fire service tools.
Qualifications and Necessary Special Requirements:
High school diploma from a school accredited by a regional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or GED certificate issued by the appropriate state agency. Some college with a technical major is preferred.
Desired Qualifications:
Certification in the repair and maintenance of breathing apparatus.
Certification in the repair and maintenance of HURST extrication equipment.
Certification in Forklift operation.
