Job Description
The objective of the Vacuum Truck Operator is to clear clean and inspect sanitary sewer lines at the direction of the SCADA Tech.
Job Responsibilities
Duties and Responsibilities
The duties described below are indicative of what the Vacuum Truck Operator may be asked to perform; duties may be changed with or without notice.
- Performing scheduled maintenance and repairs.
- Maintaining the wastewater collection system by cleaning; vacuuming; inspecting and repairing.
- Assisting in the purchase of supplies and equipment.
- Maintaining accurate records and documentation of work orders and repairs.
- Assisting co-workers in the safe handling of equipment and in other duties as appropriate.
- Performing traffic control; flagging; directing of traffic in a safe; responsible manner; ensuring the safety of self; co-workers and the public.
- Cross-trains in other areas of the City; as appropriate.
Qualifications
Education and/or Experience
REQUIRED
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Valid Texas Class “B” CDL
- TCEQ Class “D” Wastewater License or higher (see below).
- TCEQ Class “D” Wastewater License (if hired without; must be obtained within the first year of employment).
SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Ability to maintain a professional manner when dealing with the public.
- Ability to comprehend; retain and apply city and state policies and legislation; i.e. city ordinances; procedure and manuals.
- Ability to operate various types of equipment: hand tools; chain saws; mowers and weed-eaters.
- Must be available to work on an “on-call” schedule when assigned or in severe weather conditions when called
- Ability to respond to complaints and grievances posed by the public.
- Ability to define problems and deal with a variety of situations.
- Ability to think quickly; maintain self-control and adapt to stressful situations.
- Ability to use good judgement and effectively problem-solve.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
- Ability to communicate effectively with other members of the staff; supervisor; and the public.
- Ability to communicate in both written and verbal form.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
- Ability to calculate basic mathematical calculations (addition; subtraction; multiplication; division).
