About our Department:
The Huntsville Police Department (HPD) is located near the City’s downtown business and historic districts. Huntsville has 3 Police Precincts, approximately 500 sworn officers, 200 civilian personnel and patrols an area around 220 square miles. HPD is a “Professional Law Enforcement Organization” utilizing modern technology, state of the art equipment and comprehensive training techniques. The Department is an internationally accredited law enforcement agency through the “Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement” (CALEA). The Huntsville Police Department employs individuals of diverse backgrounds, education and experience. Candidates for employment are recruited from all areas of the country and from all walks of life.
Police Applications Technician Position Overview:
This is technical work involving software application support, enhancement, and maintenance of the Police Records Management System and other police related software applications. Work involves supporting, enhancing and maintaining police department software applications, inventory control of computer equipment and computer related work order system. Work also involves maintaining certain databases pertaining to critical Police records.
Qualifications and Necessary Special Requirements:
Associates Degree in Computer Science or a related field from a college or university accredited by a regional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education; three (3) years experience in police records management, information technology or associated software is preferred; or any combination of education, training and/or experience. Knowledge of Police Databases normalization standards. Knowledge of WebRMS, MPS, LETS, Rapid Cast, PowerDMS, NCIC/ACJIS, CAD/DBM, Advance. E-Crash, Camera Shots and ALACOP. Knowledge of laws and ordinances affecting information technology.
Valid driver's license
Must obtain NCIC/ACJIC certification within 6 months of hire or promotion
Successfully complete a pre-employment supplemental application and polygraph examination
Must submit to a fingerprinting background check
