Job Summary
This position performs diverse maintenance duties in the following fields: heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), electrical, appliances, plumbing, and other building trades. Duties may include, but not limited to: maintaining and repairing existing systems; replacing components as necessary; installing new equipment; scheduling inspections; maintaining equipment inventory; overseeing contracted repair and maintenance to all the above-mentioned systems; and performing maintenance and repairs in accordance with state codes, regulations, and safety procedures.
Schedule Commitment
This is a part-time, year-round position with varied, shifts that may include weekdays, weekends, and holidays. The employee will typically work Monday – Friday 7:30 am – 11:30 am with an average of 20 hours per week.
Essential Job Functions
- Performs preventive maintenance needs and repairs to the Hurst Conference Center, including roof inspection and maintenance, roof drain maintenance, minor drywall repair and painting, and general facility inspections.
- Unclogs water drains, replaces toilets and flush batteries and components, repairs faucets and valves.
- Replaces light bulbs, electrical switches, receptacles, light ballasts and fixtures.
- Repairs doors, hinges, locks, garage doors, door stops and operators.
- Prepares the building for inclement weather, including winterization.
- Maintains and displays parking signage for various events.
- Keeps track of inspection due dates and schedules inspections accordingly.
- Maintains inventory of equipment and supplies, i.e. HVAC filters and belts.
- Oversees contracted repairs and maintenance to all of the above-mentioned systems as directed.
- Collects maintenance quotes from vendors and keeps cost records of work performed.
- Works with Operations Team as needed.
- Adheres to Hurst’s Code of Ideals and The Hurst Way. Fosters positive employee relations and employee morale on a City-wide basis.
- Performs related duties as directed when such duties are logical and appropriate.
- Regular and timely attendance are required for this position.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- Must have excellent customer service skills with the ability to work and communicate effectively with City personnel, vendors, and contractors.
- Must be highly organized and able to maintain accurate records.
- Ability to change work assignments as needed and to prioritize work assignments accordingly.
- Ability to work alone with limited supervision and complete assignments in a timely manner.
- Skilled in the use of hand tools, drill, electric saw, dry wall tools, paintbrush, paint roller, and the ability to learn
- Skilled in or the ability to learn the reading and understanding of electrical schematics, blue prints, repair manuals, and component installation instructions.
- Skilled in recognizing acceptable construction and maintenance practices in a variety of trades and crafts.
- Skilled in or the ability to learn to solder wires, copper pipefittings, and installing PVC piping.
- Skilled in recognizing quality products and materials to insure compliance with project plans and specifications.
- Ability to climb ladders and work at heights exceeding six feet.
- Ability to understand and follow City rules, regulations and safety procedures.
- Ability to perform assigned duties in all types of weather conditions.
- Must excel at applying the City of Hurst’s Code of Ideals in all relations with vendors, city staff, and the public.
Minimum Education, Certification, and Experience Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- General understanding of electrical, plumbing, and HVAC is preferred.
- Previous experience in repair and maintenance of mechanical systems is preferred.
- Ability to operate one-man platform lift and fork lift is preferred.
- Must have a valid Texas driver’s license with an acceptable driving record as defined by City policy.
- Must have a working telephone with a number that can receive calls and texts from the Operations Supervisor or the General Manager.
- Must have regular and punctual attendance, reliable transportation, and flexibility to respond to emergency situations during non-scheduled work hours, as needed.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and physical essential job function screening.
- Must pass a criminal background check and credit check.
