General Purpose
Idaho Falls Power is currently recruiting for a Network IT Technician. This position performs a variety of working level, complex technical duties related to the day-to-day maintenance and operation of Idaho Falls Power (IFP) networks and IT equipment.
Essential Functions
PC installation, maintenance and replacement, server system maintenance, network and communication system management, firewall system management and operation, management and administration of IFP cyber security policies, procedures, standards, and peripheral devices and software.
This position works in close coordination and collaboration with the IT department for the City of Idaho Falls.
With supervision this position maintains utility servers, computers, related equipment and software; adds and removes users from network domains; manage and perform critical system backups; manage and deploy virtual system infrastructure.
Install, adapt, test and implement systems and programs to interface with users; recommends and implements LAN, WAN policies and standards to ensure adherence to proper standards; maintains contact with city IT department where relevant. Installs and maintains sophisticated hardware and software systems for storage and retrieval of information.
Reviews and recommends software and hardware acquisition needs to supervisory staff; reviews and implements requests for development or change of hardware and software systems; maintains, installs and expands network infrastructure; installs or replaces hardware, assembles computers and components; network wiring and related components.
Input, administer and manage utility network security systems. Install and manage security and system patches; analyze, configure and manage firewall systems including monitoring of firewall and system log files.
With supervision this position provides assistance in network administration duties; maintaining and deploying switches, routers, punch down panels, rack equipment, and backup power sources; monitors and maintains utility network communication systems.
Input, understand, and the utilities’ cyber security program including all related regulatory standards associated with cyber security.
Follows and adheres to the utility’s established policies and procedures. Input, and facilitate utility physical security and cyber security policies and procedures as pertains to the organization. Reviews security issues and access control mechanisms to prevent unwanted access to networks; adheres to network change management and confirmation that meet required security policy; develops new methodologies to improve networking performance and user service.
Provide after-hours support when needed to maintain proper and secure, system operation.
Works well in a team environment and with the general public.
Implement and manage new system enhancements such as intrusion detection systems, network monitoring systems etc.
Perform other duties as requested.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Education and Experience:
A. Completion of two (2) years of technical college studies in computer science, computer networking, or related fields; Associates Degree preferred.
OR
B. Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience performing duties defined in this job posting
OR
C. An equivalent combination of education and experience.
2. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Working knowledge of Networking system management concepts; information system management concepts; hardware configurations and capabilities; operating system fundamentals; data communication concepts; Windows Servers systems, PC operating systems and networking documentation procedures.
Skill in use of computer and network systems’ architecture and configurations; operation of office equipment including menu driven personal computer systems, printers, photocopying machines, and optical scanners, etc.
Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing; make basic decisions where established procedures do not always apply; perform complex analytical functions; operate personal computer and apply various program applications related to word processing, spread sheets and presentations. Provide both in-person and remote technical support for Idaho Falls Power employees. This may include basic troubleshooting, training, and related user management functions. Excellent customer service skills are essential. Expected to treat the co-workers we support like customers. Prior experience in technical support or customer service is highly recommended
3. Special Qualifications:
The following skills and experience is preferable: Microsoft business and enterprise deployment products, such as Windows Deployment Services, Intune, and manual PC builds(installing drivers etc.).
Microsoft Active Directory environments (managing users, Windows profiles, legacy file shares and drive mappings, etc).
Microsoft 365 cloud services, particularly OneDrive and Sharepoint document management and sharing.
Must be able and willing to work evening hours.
Work Environment
Incumbent of the position performs in a typical office setting with appropriate climate controls. Tasks require variety of physical activities, not generally involving muscular strain, such as walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, and lifting. Common eye, hand, finger dexterity required. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, discriminating thinking and creative problem solving. Periodic domestic and international travel required in normal course of job performance.
