General Purpose
The Idaho Falls Police Department (IFPD) is creating a list of eligible candidates for the position of Police Officer. We are continuously accepting applications with passing written exam and physical agility test scores.
IFPD will administer the in-person written exam and physical agility test in Idaho Falls on April 16th, 2024 and July 16th, 2024.
The IFPD conducts all police officer testing through www. publicsafetytesting.com (PST). This allows you to take our written and physical agility tests at various locations around the country, as found on PST's website. Make sure to select the Idaho Falls Police Department on the PST website when you sign up so we are notified of your results if you aren't testing in person at IFPD.
Whether you test in-person at IFPD, or online through PST, you must fill out an application on the City of Idaho Falls website , and you must register for testing through PST's website .

Essential Functions
Police Officers receive training in law enforcement principles and procedures, such as criminal investigation, evidence collection, patrol, and traffic procedures. Receives training in applicable Laws, Ordinances, Codes, and Departmental Rules and Procedures.
Receives in-service training and guidance from Supervisors while performing entry-level law enforcement work in patrol, traffic, and other Police functions. May operate a Police vehicle while patrolling an assigned area; responds to calls for assistance; enforces Laws and Ordinances; performs other functions normally performed by an Officer on a training basis with supervision. Prepares accident, offense, incident, arrest, and other forms of reports. Checks for proper operation of assigned equipment; performs emergency repair; reports mechanical problems.
Administers first aid to injured individuals as needed.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
To be eligible candidates must have the following :
1. United States citizenship (this is a POST Certification requirement).
2. 21 years of age by date of hire.
3. High School Diploma or GED equivalent (copy of transcripts required).
4. A valid driver's license.
5. The ability to successfully complete all testing requirements.
6. Good written and oral communication skills.
7. The ability to function on a day-to-day basis with limited supervision.
8. Certified by the Idaho Peace Officer Standards Training (POST) Council within one year of employment.
9. Successful candidates must pass a thorough background investigation.
10. Successful candidates must pass medical, polygraph and psychological examinations (after a contingent offer of employment).
Work Environment
Tasks require a variety of physical activities periodically involving muscular strain related to walking, standing, stooping, sitting and reaching. Essential functions require talking, hearing and seeing. Mental application utilizes memory for details, emotional stability, analytical thinking and creative problem solving. Frequent local travel required in course of performing portions of job functions. Elements of the job pose various degrees of hazard and uncertainty common to law enforcement. Work environment includes indoor and outdoor locations at all times of day, all days of the year, in all weather conditions
In addition to base compensation, Idaho Falls Police Officers receive compensation for Idaho POST Certificates on the following schedule : an Intermediate Certificate is paid at 1.5% of the base hourly rate, (.30 cents minimum), an Advanced Certificate is paid at 2.25% of the base hourly rate, and a Masters Certificate is paid at 3% of the base hourly rate. Language certificate is an additional 3% of base hourly rate.
There are eleven holidays observed by the City of Idaho Falls. Officers who work these holidays are paid at twice the regular rate (double time). If a holiday falls on a scheduled day off, the officer earns a "hold day", which is a day off the officer can use at a later date. The City of Idaho Falls also rewards employees for remaining with the City through longevity pay, which increases throughout the Officer's career.
Officers receive $425 annually for footwear. Uniforms, equipment and firearm are provided. Upon completion of probation, officers who live within twelve miles of the center of the City of Idaho Falls may be issued a police vehicle, which may be used off duty within the City of Idaho Falls. If an officer chooses to have a "take home car", he / she is required to pay a nominal fee per month to offset the increased cost of insurance.
Medical and dental insurance premiums are paid by the City of Idaho Falls for the employee and dependents. Basic Life insurance coverage for the employee is provided by the City. Officers are enrolled in the Public Employee Retirement System of Idaho (PERSI).
