General Purpose
Performs a variety of tasks as they relate to being the on-site Recreation Center attendant providing customer service for patrons, recreation program support, and light custodial duties at the Recreation Center and other recreation facilities.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the general supervision of the Recreation Supervisor
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Provides on-site supervision to part-time recreation staff when facilitating programs.
The work schedule requires availability:
Tuesday through Friday from 2:45 PM to 10:15 PM, and Saturdays from 7:45 AM to 5:15 PM.
Essential Functions
Greets public in a friendly manner at all times and responds to questions regarding the Parks and Recreation Department.
Answers telephone calls and responds to public enquires.
Collects fees for admission to the Recreation Center. Opens and closes the building at nights and weekends.
Collects program fees and registers participants for programs, rents facilities and shelters, sales vending permits.
Sets-up recreation center facility, including equipment, for scheduled league play at nights and weekends.
Helps prevents incidents and accidents by monitoring participant and patron activities and enforcing City policies, rules and procedures. Responds to emergencies as needed and completes incident/accident reports as required.
Performs general office tasks such as filling out revenue sheets, etc.
Checks locker rooms and secures the building after all patrons are gone.
Performs light cleaning/maintenance as required to include but not limited to; garbage pick-up, vacuuming, replacement of paper products in the restrooms and wiping off counters.
Assists in coordinating and facilitating recreation programs such as classes, leagues, camps, and events, and performing tasks such as setting up, leading and supervising, creating rosters, contacting volunteer coaches, communicating with program participants, ordering supplies, cleaning up, on-site field and court supervision, staff trainings, reviewing program evaluations, organizing and taking inventory of equipment.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Education and Experience:
A. Graduation from high school.
AND
B. Six months of experience in community-based recreation program or afterschool programs, or community/fitness center operations.
OR
C. An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
2.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Working knowledge of principles and practices of community recreation programming and development; some knowledge of principles of supervision; some knowledge of interpersonal communication skills and public relations; some knowledge of fiscal management.
Ability to generate genuine rapport with all age groups; ability to communicate clearly and effectively, verbally and in writing; ability to develop effective working relationships with supervisors, state and local agency personnel, fellow workers, community interest groups and the public.
3. Special Qualifications:
Working knowledge of the English language. May work a varied schedule that includes holidays, nights and weekends.
Work Environment
Tasks require a variety of physical activities generally involving muscular strain. Physical demands may occur in activities related to walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, running, jumping, etc. Talking, hearing and seeing required in the daily performance of job duties. Occasional exposure to environmental hazards resulting from working in a recreational environment. Mental application utilizes memory for details, emotional stability and discriminating thinking and creative problem solving.
