The vacancy is for one (1) full-time position in the Facilities Division. 

Salary Information:
Maintenance Worker II - $4,219 - $5,654/mo.

GENERAL PURPOSE
Under supervision, to perform routine manual skilled work in the maintenance, construction and repair of facilities; to operate a variety of maintenance and repair tools and equipment; work independently and participate in the training and supervision of subordinate personnel; perform other duties as assigned.
 
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Works under general direction of the Grounds/Facilities Supervisor,  and/or designee.
Perform a wide variety of skilled construction and maintenance work involving the land, facilities and equipment of the City; operate hand and portable power tools pertaining to the assignment; may drive or operate tractors, backhoes front end loaders, trucks, vacuums, vactors, cutters and other motor driven equipment; maintain and sharpen tools used in the assignment; work independently or with a crew; work at heights using ground ladders and mechanical lifts, work below ground level in trenches and excavations; use chemicals and other supplies, some of which may be noxious or harmful to the body; wear protective clothing and equipment; secure worksites from traffic hazards as necessary; maintain simple records; communicate by radio and/or cell phone and email; read and interpret; operate city vehicles on public streets; perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment; fuel and lubricate vehicles and related equipment; request materials or equipment needed and maintain work records; adhere to safety practices and wear personal protective equipment; may be subject to emergency call-out work and assist other departments as needed; may be required to work over-time; may be subject to call-back on weekends, after hours, and holidays; assist in the instruction and training of less experienced staff; build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees and the public using principles of good customer service; assist with the set up and take down of City sponsored events and functions; set up and break down chairs and tables in conference rooms; assemble and move furniture.
 
Perform a wide variety of skilled building maintenance duties involved in the installation, repair and maintenance of City buildings, facilities, grounds, and parks; perform building maintenance tasks involving carpentry, plumbing, heating, sinks, showers, water fountains, toilets, faucet, and related equipment, electrical and mechanical work, alterations or repairs to tables, counters, doors and window frames; perform minor structural, concrete and masonry repairs; maintain and repair woodwork of buildings; repair roofs and ceilings; inspect and perform minor electrical and plumbing repairs; replace switches, outlets, breakers, fuses and wiring; replace light bulbs; perform building maintenance duties such as painting, plastering, tile and other related duties; assist in the operation, adjustment, and repair of air conditioning and heating units and components; assist with the framing and finish work in remodeling offices and other structures; install door locks, doors and windows; repair appliances; move furniture; assist Parks Division as necessary; perform custodial work during the absence of regular custodian; participate in the development and propagation of SOPs (standard operating procedures) including safe work practices and procedures; attend and participate in group meetings; stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field.
Knowledge of:
Proper methods, materials, tools and equipment used in general maintenance work; appropriate safety precautions and procedures; repair and maintenance of facilities, equipment and landscaped areas; general hand and portable power tools; English usage, grammar, spelling, vocabulary and punctuation. Methods and techniques of performing skilled building maintenance work including carpentry, plumbing, heating, electrical and mechanical; building construction and maintenance methods; electrical systems; installation and repair of plumbing fixtures; basic principles and practices used in carpentry, plumbing, painting and masonry work; rough and finished carpentry work in the repair of structures such as partitions, walls, doors, fences, window frames, roofs, office furniture and shelves; electrical repair work in wiring for switches, outlets, plugs, cables, power circuits and appliances; repair and replacement of lighting system; inspection of electrical systems for unsafe conditions; maintain and regularly test working condition of safety equipment including fire alarm and emergency lighting; identify pluming problems, replace seals and other minor parts; maintenance of underground water lines; maintenance of drinking fountains and other related parts; repair and maintenance of water heaters and other appliances; repair and maintenance of plumbing leaks and breaks above and below ground; applies and prepares various surfaces for paint, enamel, lacquer, varnish or stains; remove or paint over graffiti;  operational characteristics of tools and equipment used in building maintenance activities; construction and maintenance methods and equipment; basic mathematical principles; methods, materials and equipment used in custodial work.

Ability to:
Operate hand and portable power tools; perform skilled work; plan and layout work; estimate time and material requirements; maintain accurate records; operate a vehicle, observing legal and defensive driving practices; understand and carry out oral and written instructions in English; and establish and maintain effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Perform skilled tasks involved in a variety of building construction and maintenance activities; operate and maintain a variety of building maintenance tools and equipment; perform heavy manual labor; perform rough and finished carpentry, welding, plumbing, electrical, painting, roofing and mechanical work; work from blueprints, shop drawings and sketches; perform a variety of routine building maintenance tasks including carpentry, plumbing and masonry; maintain records; perform a variety of tasks for extended periods of time and in unfavorable weather conditions; work independently in the absence of supervision; understand and carry out oral and written directions; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work and contribute to a cooperative team effort; methods used in maintenance and building repair, including basic knowledge of uniform code books, electrical wiring, plumbing, carpentry, glass replacement, painting, and grounds maintenance including sprinkler systems; work from blueprints, shop drawings and sketches; basic math; safety practices and procedures relating to the building trades; operate and maintain a variety of building maintenance tools and equipment.
Education
High School Diploma, or General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.), or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
 
Training and Experience
At least three (3) years of experience in construction or a related field or any combination of education, training and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties and responsibilities as described.
 
Completion of CPR Certification within 12 months of employment and maintain same during employment.
 
Completion of the Traffic Control & Flagger Training within 12 months of employment.

General basic locksmith training and or certification or equivalent is highly desirable, or the ability to complete training and/or certification within 12 months of employment and maintain same during employment.
