DEFINITION: Under the direction of the Public Services Director, perform a variety of general activities involved in the maintenance and repair of City grounds, parks, buildings, facilities and other City-owned properties or facilities; perform general maintenance work as assigned.DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: General Maintenance Worker I: This is the entry-level class in the General Maintenance Worker class series. It is distinguished from the next higher classification of the series in that the latter is responsible for performing a wider range of duties in the assigned maintenance area and is required to have a Class C upon hire. General Maintenance Worker II: This is the next class in the General Maintenance Worker class series. It is distinguished from the next higher classification of General Maintenance Worker III in that the latter is the full journey-level responsible for performing the entire range of duties in the assigned maintenance area with five (5) or more years experience or applicable certificates and training and evidence of a Class B. General Maintenance Worker III: This is the journey-level class in the General Maintenance Worker class series. It is distinguished from the General Maintenance Worker II by the primary responsibility to serve as a lead in assigned maintenance duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Perform a variety of general activities involved in the maintenance and repair of City grounds, buildings, facilities and other City-owned properties; assist in the installation and maintenance of streets, curbs and gutters, water distribution and sewer collection systems respond to work orders as assigned by the position; assist in maintaining City properties in safe operating condition.Assist in preparing streets for asphalt and concrete repair as assigned by the position; utilize asphalt and other rock to grade and patch City’s right of ways; fill holes and seal cracks; maintain existing streets in proper condition; clean and maintain street drains.Assist in the maintenance and repair of City water and sewer systems, lines and equipment as assigned by the position; clean water and sewer lines; provide support in the maintenance of water and sewer mains, laterals and various other fixtures, parts and equipment.Perform grounds maintenance activities in the beautification of grounds and landscaped areas as assigned; mow, edge, trim and water lawns, fields and other turf grounds; hoe and pull weeds; rake leaves; plant, cultivate, prune and fertilize flowers, trees, grass and shrubs; maintain and prepare baseball infield.Maintain and perform on-site safety inspections of play equipment at City parks according to established procedures.
