What are the responsibilities and job description for the CD Development - Engineering Tech I or II position at City of Independence?
The City of Independence is seeking self-motivated, solution-oriented individuals to join the Community Development Department. This position is responsible for the administration of construction permits and development activities, performing inspections of required building permit landscaping, review and approval of building permit plot plans, assisting in the development and review of plans and drawings. Candidates should demonstrate interest in growing skills, knowledge, and career, and must be detail-oriented with multi-tasking capabilities. Excellent customer service skills, including the ability to communicate tactfully with the public in person and on the phone. The ideal candidates are solution-focused, diligent, driven to action, and take pride in their work. Will perform other related duties as assigned as applicable to the Development Services Division of Community Development. ArcGIS/ESRI software platform experience preferred.
Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent and three years of progressively responsible related experience, or any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. Requires a valid Missouri driver’s license. Must complete the required NIMS level 100-c and 700-b training within the first six months of hire.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of principles, practices and standards of surveying and drafting. Skill in applying mathematical concepts and principles. Skill and ability in recordkeeping, report preparation, filing, computer applications related to work, and general office practices. Ability to read and interpret construction and development plans/drawings. Ability to read, understand, and apply regulatory codes like the City Code, MDNR regulations, and APWA specifications.
Physical Demands: Hand dexterity to operate personal computer and other equipment related to job. While performing the essential functions of this job, the incumbent is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; use of hands to handle, finger, or feel, and to reach with hands and arms.
Typical Working Conditions: Working conditions are in both office environment and outdoor weather conditions.
