What are the responsibilities and job description for the Municipal Services Water Maintenance - Laborer position at City of Independence?
Performs routine construction and maintenance duties within the Municipal Services/Water Construction Maintenance Division. Duties involve the operation of a variety of equipment, i.e. dump trucks, jackhammers, small hand tools, etc. Properly cares for all tools, materials, and equipment. Operates utility trucks, loaders, and other vehicles and performs related duties.
Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. Ability to read and interpret valve plat book and operate mobile radio equipment. Skilled in the proper use of manual and pneumatic hand tools; communicating with the public and co workers over the radio and in person. Must possess or be capable of earning a valid Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License within six months of hire. City will provide assistance in obtaining this license. Must complete required NIMS level training within first six months of hire.
Physical Demands: Ability to climb in and out of confined spaces; shovel and dig; bend and lift 75 lbs., plus or minus 25 lbs.
Typical Working Conditions: Outdoor conditions of extreme heat, cold and adverse weather.
Hours of work: Monday – Friday 7:30am-4:00pm.
