What are the responsibilities and job description for the Financial Analyst - DPW-Financial Services position at City of Indianapolis and Marion County?
Position is responsible for the management of financial and business operations for the Divisions within the Department of Public Works. Established policies and procedures control actions. Independent judgment is utilized when there are no available policies and procedures and errors in judgment may cause inconsistencies and inconveniences as well as regulatory and budgetary problems. Position reports to Finance Manager.
- Provides the Division with budget management and procurement responsibilities
- Performs research and related analyses to assess the impact of various Division projects and transactions
- Reports to Division Finance Manager monthly expenses and forecasts their impact on the budget
- Responsible for ongoing oversight of proper accounting procedure, processes and procurement per city and county policy
- Completes detailed analysis and research, identifies options, prepares reports for management, and recommends action or change
- Responsible for processing all vendor payments in a timely manner
- Responsible for creating and overseeing requisitions requests from Division
- Responsible for accurate data management and input in financial software
- Assists in the development of business policies and procedures
- Conducts special financial and business-related studies as requested
- Must maintain confidentiality at all times

Bachelor’s Degree with three (3) to five (5) years of related experience. One (1) year of additional experience may be substituted for each year of required education. Knowledge and experience working with various computer accounting system software and databases are a must. The individual must demonstrate the ability to coordinate multiple tasks and set priorities. The ability to communicate effectively in all formats (oral, verbally, and written) and be able to present information to upper management and all others is required.
Preferred Job Requirements and Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field is preferred. Knowledge and experience in understanding and applying generally accepted accounting principles is preferred.
