Position Responsibilities
- Provides overall supervision of programs, services, facilities, and personnel at aquatic facility
- Assumes responsibility for facility operations in the absence of the Pool Manager
- Maintains aquatic facility providing the highest attention to safety for participants and employees
- Maintains minimum number of staff in-service hours required by department and meets minimum standards for both independent and internal performance and risk management audits
- Collects admission fee and revenue and completes daily cash reports. Prepares deposit and may be responsible for taking deposit to the bank. Completes other necessary forms and reports
- Monitors change fund and notifies supervisor of change fund needs or discrepancies. Is fiscally accountable for admissions and cash balancing
- Provides and coordinates proper on deck supervision of staff, appropriate levels of lifeguard coverage, lifeguard attentiveness, proper lifeguard rotations, facility inspections and closing facility or attractions when required by health and safety guidelines
- Maintains and operates aquatic facility providing the highest attention to water quality and balance.
- Cleans and restocks of restroom facilities
- Maintains detailed record keeping for facility inspections
- Assists supervisor who recruits, hires, trains, evaluates, disciplines, and advises on-site personnel and volunteers
- Maintains ongoing lifeguard and staff in-service training
- Assists supervisor who implements and evaluates aquatic programs and services at location
- Responsible for proper collecting and depositing of revenues, financial accountability and record keeping
- Supervises the training and monitoring of adherence to departmental policy and procedure at aquatic location
- Responsible for opening, closing, and securing facility, answering phones, and communicating with public
- Maintains clean facility, grounds, deck, filter, and chemical room.
- Lifeguards, and scans assigned zone of protection, rule enforcement, proper rotation
- Provides safety assistance, rescues, emergency actions and first aid when necessary
- Monitors participants and users of the facility with a high priority on safety and exemplary customer service
- Follows all established protocol for biohazard materials
- Follows all aquatic facility rules and protects self from sun exposure
- Reports immediately any hazardous conditions to supervisor including inability to properly scan zone due to weather or other conditions
- Teaches, coaches and/or assists with lessons, swim team, other programs, and special events at location
- Provides proper supervision and safe operation of all aquatic programs
- Adheres to department policy and procedure at aquatic location
- Must maintain confidentiality at all times

Working Conditions
Head Lifeguards are assigned to an aquatic facility as a primary work location in a standard aquatic facility environment, including outdoors in most cases. Incumbent will work with pool chemical applications. This position will work under the supervision of the park manager, assistant park manager, and pool manager. Work hours will include holidays, weekends, and evenings. Incumbent will be expected to travel to various locations for work related activities, training, and meetings. May be in working environments in which employee is the only staff person on site at a particular time. Head Lifeguards will be exposed to hazards of pool chemicals and cleaning supplies.
