Position Summary
The City of Indianapolis proudly hosts some of the largest, most compelling world-class attractions. Position is responsible for the intake, analysis, and issuance of special event applications and limited duration licenses associated with events. Incumbent will assist with the coordination on hundreds of events annually, ensuring compliance with local and state regulations. Position will interact regularly with the public, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, Indianapolis Fire Department, Department of Public Works, Downtown Indy, Inc., Visit Indy, and other internal and external stakeholders.

The purpose and mission of the Department of Business & Neighborhood Services (DBNS) is to protect and improve the quality of life of persons and animals in the City of Indianapolis. DBNS is the City of Indianapolis and Marion County’s principal department responsible for business licenses, residential and commercial permits, and the enforcement of the Revised Code of Ordinances of the Consolidated City and County.

High school diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of related work experience. Knowledge of or the ability to obtain a working knowledge and interpretation of applicable codes, ordinances, and procedures. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally, both orally and in writing, on technical or complex matters with applicants, internal and external partners, and public. Must possess and maintain a valid State of Indiana valid operator driver's license.

Position Responsibilities
- Intake and analysis of special event applications to ensure compliance with all regulations and requirements.
- Attends monthly meetings with event applicants, stakeholders, IMPD, IFD, the State of Indiana, and various other external agencies on special events.
- Responds to inquiries about special events via phone, and email.
- Maintains Special Events calendar, electronic files, and correspondence.
- Facilitates solutions when disputes arise between event organizers, approvers, and concerned individuals/organizations. Escalate disputes to the Special Event Program Manager as needed.
- Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.
- Facilitates customer service relations, using all forms of communication with the public, responding to customer inquiries, concerns, and requests for information; referring inquiries to the appropriate area/agency when not related to special events.
- Coordinates public Right-of-Way closure requests with the DBNS Right-of-Way section and other City agencies.
