The City of Indianola is currently welcoming applications for the position of Parks Maintenance Worker for the Parks Department.
The City of Indianola (pop. 16,069) is a growing community with a historic downtown, located approximately 15 minutes south of Des Moines. It is a safe community with Midwestern values, friendly people and excellent schools. Indianola, which is home to Simpson College, the world-renowned Des Moines Metro Opera and the National Balloon Museum and U.S. Ballooning Hall of Fame, is known for its excellent access to outdoor activities, a nice trail system, five major parks and two golf courses. The community welcomes thousands of visitors annually who come to Indianola to enjoy major events such as the National Balloon Classic, the Warren County Fair and other events.
This position is responsible for a number of tasks, including, but not limited to:
- Operation of trucks, tractors, and mowing equipment
- General park maintenance including cleaning shelters and restrooms.
- Picking litter and debris from the grounds
- Leveling sand around play equipment
- Painting and working on a variety of projects with others or alone.
- Follows OSHA procedures to ensure safety policies and procedures are enforced for the protection of the crews, co-workers, and public.
The successful candidate will have:
- High school graduation or equivalent
- Must be a self-motivated individual with a tolerance to working outdoors in the summer heat.
- Must possess a valid driver's license.
- Ability to safely operate tractors and mowing equipment.
- Ability to read and follow directions.
- Have good reasoning ability and good common sense.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
The starting salary range for this position is $14-15 /hour depending on qualifications. This is a seasonal position needed from April - November and averages 30-40 hours per week, including weekends. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a post-offer drug screening and background check. The position is open until filled.
