What are the responsibilities and job description for the Wellness & Support Specialist (Kids R.O.C.K. Youth Day Camp) position at City of Inver Grove Heights?
2) Observe participants who are currently struggling and model positive behavioral intervention strategies for counselors to use with the participant.
3) Support participants through personal and social challenges, providing guidance and interventions to enhance their behavior, performance, and interactions at Kids R.O.C.K.
4) Communicate with parents and schedule meetings to provide resources with participants having consistent issues. To review appropriate documented interactions with participants. Using tools such as Incident reports, Behavior Plans and Think forms, etc.
5) Provides staff with necessary tools to successfully carry out objectives of the program and the values of the department. This includes staff training, discipline, evaluation, and direct supervision.
6) Support staff daily through behavior management, parent communication, staff communication, program implementation, crisis intervention, and more.
8) Assist in maintaining attendance records for accurate billing, end-of-year statements, and essential reports to support daily operations.
9) Promotes and provides a positive environment for staff and participants.
10) Assist with staff scheduling, attend staff meetings, assist with covering staff breaks, and provide in-room support for staff, participants, and activities as needed.
11) Responsible for establishing and maintaining positive and respectful relationships and rapport with co-workers, maintenance staff and members of the public including but not limited to participants, parents, and contractors.
12) Follows and enforces all rules and regulations set forth in the temporary/seasonal employee handbook as well as the Kids R.O.C.K. staff manual.
13) Know, enforce and follow all safety guidelines associated with the program. This includes but is not limited to being responsible for participant’s safety and their whereabouts at all times.
14) Know and understand ALL emergency procedures associated with the program and locations.
15) Assumes additional responsibilities as assigned.
•Ability to understand and follow written or oral instructions.
•Must be at least 21 years of age.
•Certification in First Aid and CPR/AED or ability to obtain within employer’s specified timeframe.
•Ability to commit to the full summer program.
Desired Qualifications:
• Previous paid or unpaid experience in a childcare, preschool, or youth camp/ program setting- specifically relevant to the position advertised.
• Previous experience working with children with diverse needs and behavioral challenges, specifically those with ADD, ADHD, Autism, Anxiety, and other common behavioral and cognitive differences.
• Previous work involving contact with the public, customer service or work with recreation-related field. Skill and maturity to handle situations including but not limited to disciplinary actions, participant confrontations, participant complaints and emergency situations.
•Demands of the position require employees to work weekdays (between 6am-6pm) and possible evenings/weekends as the demands of the position require.
•Position is primarily active and hands-on in nature, with work direction requiring on-site availability. This will require travel to and from the work site. There will be exposure to weather extremes as work is performed in a variety of physical environments including outdoor and indoor facilities in the elements of a year-round season.
•Must be able to sit, stand, speak, hear, and effectively communicate. Ability to lift and move up to 40 pounds.
•Other physical requirements include bending, stooping, walking, running, and basic swimming skills.
