Duties include preparing and monitoring the department’s budget while providing general administrative, operational and financial support. Additional duties include RFP’s, RFQ’s, RFB’s and purchasing/legal services requests; correspondence assistance; database management; office supply management; managing and tracking of various human resources activities, including personnel administration, payroll coordination and hiring/termination processing; maintaining and remaining apprised of regulatory requirements related to cable/digital service franchises, PEG funding, cable access channel operations and drone usage; greeting and assisting visitors; and other duties as assigned. Duties will require ability to adhere to strict deadlines working in a fast-paced, multi-task environment. An Associate degree or equivalent and two years of directly related experience required. Must have advanced computer proficiency, including knowledge of database and spreadsheet applications (preferably MS Excel) and strong financial analytical skills. PAY GRADE GG17 / FULL PAY RANGE $25.07 – $35.35 PER HOUR

The Communications Department collects and distributes timely information to a variety of interested parties across a number of platforms. The department serves external stakeholders, including residents, media, other governmental bodies, businesses and interested opinion leaders. It also communicates to internal stakeholders, such as city employees, boards and commissions, the mayor and the City Council.
 A variety of tools are employed to inform and educate audiences:

  • Printed materials 
  • The city website 
  • Social media (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube
  • The television production department, Irving Community Television Network (ICTN)

Additionally, a number of town hall and neighborhood association roundtables meetings are held annually where residents meet face-to-face with city leaders.
 The Communications Department consists of six areas:

  1. Community Outreach 
  2. Graphic Design and Print Services 
  3. ICTN 
  4. Media Relations 
  5. Publications
