SENIOR LIFEGUARD
Part-Time)
Under general supervision, performs a full range of lifeguard and instructor duties; observes and supervises the activities of patrons in the pool and surrounding area; protects life, prevents accidents, and enforces pool regulations; prepares lesson plans and instructs students in swimming and water safety activities; rescues swimmers in emergency situations and provides emergency medical treatment; assists in the maintenance of facilities and equipment; may supervise site in the absence of the Assistant Pool Manager; and performs a variety of tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.
Must be able to work varying hours including days, early mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends and holidays
The p osition is part-time and seasonal for the aquatics program. Pool will be operating from March through October.
Required certifications MUST be attached to the application at the time of submission to participate in this examination process.

Examples of Duties
- Observes and supervises activities of swimmers in the pool and the surrounding area; explains and enforces applicable pool rules and regulations.
Prepares lesson plans and conducts swimming classes for beginners through advanced levels; instructs students in proper swimming techniques and various water safety measures.
Reviews swimming techniques of students; provides additional training as necessary.
Responds to unsafe conditions and potential hazards.
Rescues persons in distress or in danger of drowning; provides emergency response as necessary including first aid and CPR; calls for emergency response on serious accident cases.
Patrols the pool for accidents in the water or on the swimming pool deck and warns or alerts patrons of dangerous swimming practices or pool use.
Assists in swimming and lifesaving instructions.
Performs various maintenance duties including, but not limited to, maintaining the pool decks, dressing rooms, sinks, toilets, and restroom walls, watering down pool area, mopping floors, and emptying refuse containers.
Supervises site in the absence of the Assistant Pool Manager as needed.
Performs additional duties as required to address business needs and changing business practices.
Qualifications
Knowledge of : Advanced principles and practices of swimming, life guarding and water safety; principles and techniques involved in teaching swimming at all levels; methods and techniques of first aid and CPR; operations, services and activities of a public swimming facility; principles and practices of public relations; appropriate safety precautions and procedures within the area of assignment; pertinent Federal, State and local codes, laws and regulations.
Ability to : Perform lifeguarding duties and water rescues; enforce applicable rules and regulations of the City pool; provide proper instruction in swimming and water safety; swim with endurance and proficiency at a level necessary to perform assigned duties; lift a victim from the pool; exercise sound judgment; respond to emergency situations and administer first aid and CPR as necessary; respond to requests and inquiries from the general public; follow written and oral instructions; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Must be able to work varying hours including days, early mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends and holidays.
