JOB DESCRIPTION: Youth Engagement Program Manager
Office of Violence Prevention and Trauma Recovery
General Responsibilities:
The Office of Violence Prevention and Trauma Recovery is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring policies intended to reduce the level of violence within specific populations and neighborhoods. This strategic position is responsible for the development and implementation of initiatives and programs aimed at preempting and preventing youth and young adult violence and promoting community resiliency and healing. The candidate will collaborate with stakeholders to advocate for and promote comprehensive community strategic planning processes and community mobilization to increase positive outcomes for neighborhoods and individuals who are at-risk or involved in violent crime. Reports to the Executive Director of the OVPTR
Essential Job Functions:
Serves as the Office’s advisor on youth-centered violence prevention and peace building.
Engages and collaborates with local agencies, as well as community partners and subject matter experts to obtain relevant data, establishes partnerships, and coordinates resources to strategically implement programs and initiatives that advance public health and safety approaches for violence prevention.
Participates on various city and community work groups, task forces and events to foster positive relationships and community building.
Establishes and coordinates a network of community-based organizations to provide
comprehensive, high-quality violence intervention programs for youth and young adults most at-risk for engaging in or being victimized by violence or who reside in priority neighborhoods.
Develops a technical assistance and support program to enhance the capacity of the network; establish protocols that ensure consistency and transparency and that prioritize the well-being, safety and support of program participants.
Identifies youth and young adults who pose a high risk of participating in, or being a victim of, violent crime and engage them in programs that are designed to discourage violence and address mental and behavioral health, counseling, mediation, and personal advancement needs of participants.
Coordinates and facilitates the implementation of multi-agency, and violence prevention planning processes and programs.
Generates and presents periodic evaluations and reports to ED, City Council and the
community.
Remains abreast of current policies, guidelines, regulations, and initiatives related to re-
entry, community violence and gang prevention programs.
Responsible for educating and disseminating information to the public regarding available services and the importance of community involvement.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to bachelor’s degree in education, Social or Behavioral Sciences, Criminal Justice or related field and 5-7 years of directly related experience coordinating, developing and implementing community inter-agency prevention or intervention programs involving at-risk youth including 2-3 years of supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Master’s Degree preferred.

- Youth and Young Adult Developmental Processes – Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of youth and young adult development. Knowledge of at-risk indicators to include issues facing the community that impact positive outcomes, including expertise regarding community violence.
- Community Violence – Considerable knowledge of community history, culture and dynamics as it pertains to gun violence.
- Community Engagement – Considerable knowledge of principles and best practices related to effective community and youth engagement that lead to strengthening and empowerment of neighborhoods in order to become significant partners in addressing neighborhood/community issues.
- Prevention Program Administration – Considerable knowledge of successful methods for establishing community partnerships and ensuring program administration.
- Supervision – Knowledge of leadership techniques, principles and procedures to assign work schedule and train staff.
