SUMMARY: Is responsible for plan review and inspections on buildings to assure for code compliance, as well as, assisting contractors and public in a professional and courteous manner.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
I. Project Related Activities 90% of Time
A. Receives notification of a new project. On occasion, attends pre-construction meetings, provides inputs as appropriate assuring thoroughness and professionalism.
B. Reviews residential plans relating to zoning setbacks and structural detail assuring that the plans conform to city and state code requirements, with reliance on engineered design for trusses, suspended concrete slabs, and unusual structural situations. Interacts with permit applicant regarding required plan changes during review process.
C. Reviews commercial plans relating to HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and structural detail assuring that the plans conform to city and state code requirements, with reliance on sealed design by licensed architect or engineer.
C. Relating to commercial plan review, interacts with a variety of personnel including fire marshal and health department, city utility departments, assuring for compliance and that coordination and communication is ongoing. Interacts with applicant and design professional regarding required plan changes during the review process.
D. Interacts with project contractor and foremen assuring that they understand and follow the building codes and project specifications assuring for accuracy.
E. Conducts ongoing inspections confirming proper installation and providing information and answering questions as requested assuring for the best PR for the City and department.
F. Enters all plan reviews and inspections performed into building permit software.
G. Addresses conflicts and provides suggestions for solution finding. Researches alternatives with a variety of sources. Recommends alternatives. In some cases, directs to solution.
H. Conducts a pre-final inspection, produces punch lists assuring for thoroughness.
I. Conducts the final inspection assuring compliance with building codes and that other specifications have been fulfilled to City specifications. Issues Safe Occupancy Permits upon approval of final inspections.
J. Assists the contractor by providing information, direction and other assistance assuring that the project is constructed within compliance, and assuring for professionalism.
K. Deals with the public in a professional, courteous manner.
L. Attends training classes to increase understanding of codes and to obtain up-to-date information about new construction product and processes.
M. Interacts with utility departments regarding inspections between building and utility services.
II. PR Related Activities 10% of Time
A Remains accessible to all stakeholders.
B. Provides feed back, clarifies City policies and requirements, and assists in problem solution finding, addresses complaints as needed assuring for professionalism and the best possible
PR for the City.
C Assists with general customer service in office as needed.
