Streets Maintenance Division: The City of Jacksonville Streets Division maintains over 150 miles of paved streets, soil roads, and sidewalks along the street system as well as drainage systems within City limits. Maintenance Workers in the Streets Division play a vital role in maintaining the City's streets. Some ditches, creeks and streams in the City of Jacksonville carry stormwater runoff from streets. The City of Jacksonville Streets Division will maintain ditches, creeks, and streams to ensure that water continues to flow, allowing for proper drainage.

General Description: The City of Jacksonville is looking for an Equipment Operator I for the Streets Division in Public Services. This is an exciting opportunity to come join our team and receive training and career development geared towards advancing a career in public services. Equipment Operators are often responsible for a wide variety of jobs. Operators should be comfortable in the regular operation of backhoes, excavators, dump trucks, front loaders, bucket truck and light construction equipment; does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision.
The salary posted is the full salary range for this position. The starting salary is expected to be in the range of $37,332.05 - $48,531.81 depending on qualifications.
Operating light construction equipment in the performance of maintenance and repair tasks.(These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. - Operates mini excavator, backhoe, front loader, tandem dump trucks, bucket truck and related equipment in the maintenance and repair of streets, sidewalks, curbs and gutters and utility lines.
- Installs and repairs street signs, seasonal decorations, street banners and flags.
- Performs related tasks as required.
Possession of a valid driver's license and demonstrated safe operation of a backhoe and excavator is required for this position.
CDL preferred or the ability to obtain within the first 6 months of the probationary period.
General knowledge of the principles and practices of operating light construction equipment; general knowledge of the traffic laws and regulations governing equipment operation; general knowledge of the occupational hazards involved and the safety precautions necessary to the proper operation of varied construction and maintenance equipment; skill in the use of equipment to which assigned; ability to understand and follow oral and written directions; mechanical aptitude; ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.
