What are the responsibilities and job description for the Professional Architect position at City of Jacksonville?
The Planning and Development Department is actively seeking a Professional Architect.

- Oversees and reviews the design and preparation of plans, specifications and engineering cost estimates for the construction, operation and/or maintenance of municipal projects requiring architectural services to include capital improvement projects and proposed project applications for building permitting.
- Plans, designs, reviews, and prepares schematic diagrams for construction or renovation of buildings, facilities, and structures.
- Prepares construction contract documents for bidding.
- Prepares cost estimates.
- Reviews design drawings and specifications for compliance with Florida Building Code, program requirements, scope of work, and budgetary considerations.
- Reviews and approves payments to consultants for work completed.
- Schedules and conducts design coordination meetings.
- Reviews shop drawings submitted by contractors.
- Reviews completed buildings and construction projects for compliance with drawings, specifications, building code, and workmanship standards.
- Provides updated estimates for design, construction, or land acquisition needs of city agencies by planning future maintenance, renovations, or capital improvement costs.
- Operates standard office equipment such as personal computer using word processing, spreadsheet, database and construction related software.
- Demonstrates proficiency in the City of Jacksonville’s competencies.
- Performs related work as required.
- Knowledge of the practices and principles of architecture.
- Knowledge of materials and methods of building construction.
- Skill in the use of architectural instruments and equipment.
- Ability to plan, review and design buildings and other structures.
- Ability to prepare construction contract documents and specifications.
- Ability to communicate effectively with the public and others.
- Ability to plan, schedule, coordinate, and review the work of others.
- Ability to operate standard office equipment such as personal computer using word processing, spreadsheet, database, and constructions related software.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
- Eight (8) years of education and/or experience in architectural work.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- The probationary period for this classification is 6 months.
LICENSING/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION:
- A valid driver's license Is required prior to appointment and must be maintained during employment in this class.
- Must qualify for prior to appointment, obtain, and maintain during employment a City of Jacksonville Public Driver Certification.
- FLA Professional Architect Registration is required & must be maintained.
- If an active Professional Licensed Architect from another state, must transfer or obtain registration in Florida as a Professional Architect within 6-months of employment.
