Description
The City of Jefferson is accepting applications for Utility Maintenance Workers for our Public Works, Wastewater Collections Division. This position maintains storm water systems and wastewater collection systems.
Examples of Duties
Performs sewer and storm water system investigations, and routine maintenance.
Performs building and grounds maintenance on City owned property and facilities including mowing, snow removal, painting, minor carpentry, grading, seeding, tree trimming, and removal of waste material.
Performs repairs and preventive maintenance on equipment.
Assists utility company representatives, contractors and water treatment staff to identify depth of water and sewer lines, and troubleshoot water pump problems.
Operates and maintains heavy equipment used for sewer system maintenance.
Logs and records daily work, equipment, and supplies used, worksites or areas worked, timesheets, and accident reports to prepare accurate and timely monthly operation reports.
Responds to emergency blockages in sewer line, and determines best way to proceed. Locates sewer lines and manholes.
Performs general daily inspection, cleaning and maintenance tasks necessary to keep vehicles, equipment, and tools in operable condition, which may include inspecting equipment, checking fluid levels, replacing fluids, greasing equipment, replacing parts, washing and cleaning equipment, or cleaning work areas; monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety.
Performs work in a safe manner following confined space, work zone safety, OSHA, log-out-tag-out requirements, hazard communications, and wearing protective gear including masks, goggles, aspirator, boots, rubber gloves, and hearing protection.
Typical Qualifications
Requires a high school diploma and preferably one year experience in construction and equipment maintenance and repair.
Must have a MO CDL Class B with air brakes and tanker endorsement within 6 months of hire, training will be provided.
Physical : Ability to work in extreme weather conditions; lift, carry, push, pull up to 100 pounds; stand for extended periods; operate, loaders, bobcat, tandem dump truck, brush hog, vacuum flusher, jet rodder, root saw and grouting machine.
Mental : Ability to be on call 24 / 7 on a rotating schedule, approximately 1 out of every 8 weeks for emergency purposes; follow directions; communicate effectively; and organize equipment requirement for daily jobs.
Supplemental Information
This position works Monday - Friday from 6 : 30AM to 3 : 00PM with a rotating stand-by schedule of one week, every two months. Employees working stand-by will receive stand-by pay of $17.71 per day during the weekday and $44.26 per day on weekends. All stand-by calls are paid at a 2 hour minimum per call.
Specific job title and salary depend upon qualifications. Minimum starting salary for a Utility Maintenance Trainee is $16.06 / hr. and maximum salary for a Senior Utility Maintenance Worker is $26.57 / hr.
