What are the responsibilities and job description for the Exercise Instructor-Water Aerobics position at City of Jefferson?
The City of Jefferson's Park and Recreation Department is currently seeking Water Aerobic Fitness Instructors to teach at Ellis Porter swimming pool. This position will lead, instruct, and motivate groups in specific exercise programs, including cardiovascular exercise, strength training, and stretching while performing all duties in a safe, prudent and timely manner. Classes will be held Monday - Friday from 7:45 AM - 8:45 AM, starting May 30, 2025 - September 6, 2025 (dates may change due to weather.)Facilitate and guide class participants using positive characteristic traits.
Greet class participants.
Conduct specific fitness instructional activities such as but not limited to Yoga, Palates, H.I.I.T, Fitness Boot Camp, Stretch and Strength classes to meet the needs of the community.
Prepare progressive exercise lesson plans.
Set up and return equipment to appropriate location.
Report malfunctioning equipment or other maintenance issues.
Record attendance and maintain proper class records.
Make recommendations for future fitness classes and/or changes in current schedule.
Perform other duties as assigned.A general knowledge of the principles and practices of Parks and Recreation program and facility operations and procedures.
Must be able to motivate and have good communication skills.
Previous exercise instructor experience preferred.
Must enjoy teaching, motivating, and communicating with others.
Certification through nationally recognized agency required. American Council on Exercise (ACE) Group Fitness Instructor, American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Group Exercise Instructor, Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA) Group Fitness Instructor, Beachbody LIVE Instructor or National Association for Fitness Certifications (NAFC) Group Fitness Instructor certifications preferred.
Current CPR, AED and First Aid certification is required.Fitness Instructors are paid by the class with rates from $20.75 to $30.75 per class. This position works during the pool operating season. Days and hours of the week will vary based on the needs of the community.
