The City of Jefferson is looking to hire knowledgeable and dependable Parks Maintenance Workers within the Parks and Recreation Department. This position works with our horticulture team to perform tasks involving the beautification and landscaping of City parks and grounds. The ideal candidate should have experience in horticulture, landscaping development, mowing, lawn care maintenance, native planting, light forestry, and parks grounds maintenance.
Performs beautification and landscaping on City-owned property and responsible in the area of lawn care maintenance, horticulture, landscaping development and maintenance, native plantings, tree care, and parks ground maintenance.
Uses heavy and light equipment, and hand tools to perform functions including mower, weedeater, chainsaw, brush hog, mini excavator, chipper, backhoe, skid loader, bobcat, and trucks.
Performs snow and ice removal on trails, parking lots, and sidewalks.
Performs repairs and preventive maintenance on equipment.
Performs work in a safe manner, securing work site and following work zone safety rules, wearing safety equipment including glasses, boots, gloves, hearing protection, helmets, and harnesses.
Maintains accurate, reliable records of daily work, equipment used, worksites, and projects.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Works under the general supervision of the Parks Resources Supervisor.
Physical: Ability to work in extreme weather conditions; lift carry, push and pull up to 100 pounds; stand for extended periods;
Mental: Ability to follow directions; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; and organize equipment, supplies and vehicles necessary for daily work tasks. Must be a positive Parks and Recreation representative while working closely with golfers, co-workers and the general public.
Knowledge and ability to operate and maintain various turf, construction and landscape equipment and vehicles.
Parks Maintenance Trainee:
Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
Parks Maintenance Worker:
Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and one-year experience directly involved horticulture, landscaping development on grounds maintenance, or closely related field.
Obtains and maintains a public use pesticide applicators license.
Obtains and maintains Missouri Class A CDL with air brake and tank endorsement.
Senior Parks Maintenance Worker:
Requires a high school diploma and four years' experience in construction and equipment maintenance/repair and depending on the position, horticulture, landscaping, general tree care or parks ground maintenance.
Obtains and maintains a public use pesticide applicators license.
Obtains and maintains Missouri Class A CDL with air brake and tank endorsement.
Typical hours worked are Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Weekend hours may be required, based on the needs of the department and community events.
Specific job title and salary depend upon qualifications. Minimum starting salary for a Parks Maintenance Worker Trainee is $16.55 per hour and maximum salary for a Senior Parks Maintenance Worker is $27.36 per hour.
