Traffic Manager
The City of Johns Creek seeks a dedicated Traffic Manager to oversee and manage traffic management projects, ensuring their successful execution and alignment with the City's transportation objectives. This role also leads the operation of the Traffic Control Center and ensures traffic signal systems, signage, and roadway safety measures are maintained and improved.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, manage, and oversee traffic signal system maintenance, signage repair, and roadway striping activities.
- Develop schedules and approaches for traffic system maintenance, ensuring timely execution.
- Prepare and oversee project scopes, manage RFP processes, and coordinate consultants for traffic design projects.
- Supervise the Traffic Control Center operations, ensuring appropriate staffing for peak periods and special events.
- Oversee the Traffic Calming Program and ensure the functionality of the traffic signal communication network.
- Manage contractors for signal, signage, and fiber optic maintenance, ensuring high-quality service.
- Review and oversee traffic project designs, cost estimates, and construction processes with consultants.
- Respond to emergency calls regarding traffic signal systems or roadway issues during assigned periods.
- Brief the Public Works Director and City Management on traffic-related matters and provide recommendations for improvements.
- Ensure all projects comply with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Attend Council Work Sessions and Meetings to provide updates on traffic management initiatives.
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Eight (8) years of experience in traffic engineering.
- Four (4) years of progressively responsible management experience.
- Valid Georgia driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional Engineering (PE) License.
- Experience in project and financial management.
- GDOT training in Plan Development Process (PDP) and Local Administered Project (LAP).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Expertise in traffic project design and construction, including GDOT PDP processes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and traffic design/project management software.
- Strong ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills, including the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Proven problem-solving and organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Familiarity with construction materials and public works operations.
- Ability to interpret design drawings, construction specifications, and contract documents.
- Leadership skills to supervise and mentor staff effectively.
- Independent work ethic with strong communication abilities across diverse audiences.
Special Requirements:
- Ability to travel between City facilities and external agencies as needed.
- Availability to respond to emergency traffic system issues during or outside regular work hours.
