The City of Johnson City, Tennessee is accepting applications for an Inventory Specialist in the Fleet Management department. The employee performs intermediate clerical and related work receiving, stocking and distributing a wide range of materials, supplies and equipment in the City Garage; does related work as required. An employee in this class should be able to recognize by name and sight a variety of parts, materials and supplies related to a garage. The work requires accuracy in posting and maintaining records. The work is carried out under the supervision of the Fleet Management Director.
Essential Functions of Position :
- source goods and services at the best available price;
- files copies of requisitions, purchase orders and delivery sheets;
- processes requests for parts for various types of equipment;
- researches parts availability;
- requisitions needed parts and services through Oracle;
- receives parts, and checks incoming parts against invoices;
- entering invoices into Oracle to be processed for payment;
- process repair orders for outside work;
- posts appropriate data to work order;
- manages inventory for new vehicles to ensure needed parts are in stock;
- performs inventory audit to manage obsolete parts;
- keeps files and records of all parts, supplies, materials and tools received and issued;
- keeps shelves and bins stocked and organized;
- takes periodic and special inventories;
- answers telephone and gives information concerning stock;
- may operate simple duplicating and stockroom equipment;
- operates forklifts of various types;
- insures compliance with safety policies and regulations;
- manages OE parts inventory for warranty compliance;
- pickup of locally sourced parts to ensure minimal downtime of vehicles;
- assists in unloading shipments;
- return cores for credit as quickly as possible;
- keep all parties informed regarding status of vehicle parts / repairs;
- procure parts using City purchasing card per P-card policies and procedures;
- makes deliveries of materials to various City departments;
- performs related tasks as required.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities : General knowledge of stockroom and inventory practices; accuracy in keeping records of items received, issued and on hand; some knowledge of automotive equipment; ability to get along well with others; maintain a healthy relationship with vendors; clerical aptitude; and integrity. Manual dexterity to work efficiently on a computer keyboard for data entry. Certified to operate a forklift.
Acceptable Experience and Training : Completion of high school or GED and some stockroom experience in a garage; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Pre-employment physical, drug screening and background check are required.
