The City of Johnson City, Tennessee is accepting internal, online applications for a Crew Supervisor within the Public Works department, Street division, to oversee tree maintenance-related operations. This skilled work involves operating specialized forestry equipment, demanding knowledge and experience for moderately difficult tasks. The position carries responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of this equipment, often performed with considerable independence. While a supervisor assigns and inspects work in progress and upon completion, focusing on quality, quantity, safety, and equipment care, the role requires a strong understanding of tree maintenance practices and equipment.
Essential Functions of Position: Supervises the work of public service workers and equipment operators in street and highway maintenance, sanitary and storm sewer construction, park maintenance, water and sewer main maintenance, building repairs and maintenance, and other tasks involving the maintenance and repair of public facilities.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Thorough knowledge of methods, materials and techniques used in municipal public works construction projects; general knowledge of the street, water and sewer systems for the City including location and size of mains, hydrants and valves; thorough knowledge of other special areas assigned; thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work; ability to assign and supervise the work of others; dependability.
Acceptable Experience and Training: Completion of high school or GED and considerable experience as a semiskilled worker or heavy equipment operator; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Possession of a valid commercial driver's license issued by the State of Tennessee. CDL class A with or without 57 restrictions. Pre-employment DOT physical, drug screening and background check required.
