Full-time position available with the Civil Rights & Equal Opportunity Department, in Source of Income Office, located at 414 E 12th St.

Salary Range: $5,173-$7,759/month

Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday 8:00a.m.-5:00p.m.

Responsibilities

  • Reports to the Investigations Division Manager/Division Chief for the Civil Rights Division.
  • Works closely with Investigations Supervisors.
  • Investigates complaints of discrimination in employment, housing, public accommodations, and related civil rights laws.
  • Enforces duties under Chapter 38, Civil Rights of the City of Kansas City Missouri City Ordinance, and Chapter 213, RSMo. and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
  • Participates in programs administered by the Civil Rights & Equal Opportunity Department designed to promote betterment of human relations and assurance of equal opportunities for all persons regardless of race, color, religion, ancestry, or national origin, gender, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity or age.
  • Conducts interviews and mediations with cultural sensitivity after using the techniques of education, conciliation, and persuasion.
  • Collects information regarding allegedly discriminatory conduct and applies analytical reasoning to determine if the law has been violated.
  • Utilizes strong writing skills to make reports and recommendations for disposition of problems.
  • Serves as a speaker, panel participant, and resource person to civic, church, community, and city programs to explain the purpose of, and encourage participation in, human and civil rights.
  • Plans and presents educational and outreach programs to community, civic, professional, and other groups interested in better human relations among all persons.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

REQUIRES an accredited Bachelor's degree and 2 years of professional experience in the application of contract or code review and compliance; government programs analysis; human relations; civil rights; personnel administration, investigations, or grievances; equal employment claims and investigations. (A Juris Doctorate may substitute for one year of experience.)

Positions requiring a high school diploma/GED certificate must be obtained from a school/program accredited by the Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.

The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.

For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.

Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.

If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
