Two full-time positions available with the Fire Department, Ambulance Account Receivable Division located at 6750 Eastwood Trafficway
Salary Range: $19.27-$29.39/hour
Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

Responsibilities
- Resolves complex Medicare, Medicaid, private insurance and ambulance billing services, when responding to inquiries from the general public regarding billing as invoiced by KCFD membership, and financial services.
- Refers citizens for assistance to social service and community agencies.
- Maintains and promotes goodwill and positive citizen and patient relations of the KCFD ambulance billing division for the city of Kansas City.
- Follows through on CMS insurance, billing and ambulance service requests and monitors status and outcomes.
- Audits data as submitted by vendor of billing post payment procedures received from data systems account outcomes processed by the data system vendor.
- Reviews, edits, and corrects problems, issues and errors for resubmission to payors for revenue reimbursable payments to the City of Kansas City.
- Processes payments for services using established electronic information systems.
- Follow up on insurance appeals, monitors account status and outcomes accordingly.
- Accesses technological on-line resources to assist in provision of ambulance bills to patients, attorney's or insurance providers.
- Trains in the principles and practices of KCFD Medical Bureau Billing and in the applicable research techniques, methods, and procedures to build a working knowledge of: CMS, Medicare, Medicaid and private insurances.
- Understands verification and interpretation methods designed to decipher and make decisions in conformance with established laws, regulations, of HIPAA policies and procedures.
- Collects, analyzes, and deduces data while establishing and maintaining an effective working relationships with employees, insurance companies and the citizens serviced.
Qualifications
REQUIRES high school graduation or GED and 1 year of public or private sector experience in Medicare and Medicaid Medical Billing OR 1 year of customer service experience.
