The City of Katy is accepting applications for a full-time Police Officer for the Katy Police Department.
Candidates must currently hold a TCOLE license with at least 1(one) year of experience.
Experienced Police Officers are encouraged to apply!
Certification Pay for Intermediate, Advanced and Master Peace Officer certifications from $900-$2100 annually
SUMMARY: Maintains the peace and safety of citizens in all public, commercial, and residential areas by enforcing City ordinances, traffic laws and apprehending criminals.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES: -- Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Acts as a crime deterrent; patrols all businesses and residential neighborhoods looking for suspicious and criminal activities.
- Prepares a variety of reports and records including but not limited to daily logs, investigation reports, field interrogation reports, accident reports, and arrest reports.
- Responds to calls for service; investigates accident scenes, reports of criminal activities, civil and domestic disturbances, illegal drug activities, and missing persons; takes appropriate actions; investigates unsafe conditions in streets and other locations.
- Conducts searches of vehicles, homes, businesses, and other areas for contraband and drugs; assists in serving warrants and subpoenas.
- Performs traffic enforcement duties; enforces traffic laws and issues citations; makes arrests as appropriate.
- Assists other officers with pat downs and searches of suspects during traffic stops and booking into jail.
- Checks on the welfare of inmates; books and releases prisoners; files paperwork; testifies in court; logs inmate arraignments.
- Provides assistance and information to citizens; performs escort services for emergency vehicles, funeral, and other situations as assigned.
- Completes patrol vehicle maintenance; cleans and refuels car/motorcycle; inspects for necessary maintenance.
- Maintains physical fitness level required to complete assigned duties.
- This position is considered Critical Personnel during a natural or manmade disaster and/or a catastrophic event. This position may be required to provide services or perform duties for the benefit of the public and the continuity of City operations. These may include services or duties different from those performed in the usual course and scope of this position.
- For purposes of business continuity, employees in this position are considered Essential Critical Infrastructure Workers, as defined by the Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA).
- Performs other duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training and Experience Guidelines:
High school diploma or equivalent; AND the ability to successfully complete required training and obtain licensure; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Knowledge of:
- Department policies and procedures.
- Texas penal code and code of criminal procedures.
- Local, State, and Federal codes, ordinances, and regulations.
- Criminal, civil, juvenile, and traffic laws and regulations.
- Local geography, street names and city limits.
- Criminal investigations, crime scene establishment and search, and investigative techniques.
- Physical defensive tactics, maneuvers, and techniques.
- Safety policies, practices, procedures, and regulations.
- Radio communication and 10-signal code.
Skill in:
- Resolving disputes and conflicts.
- Operating a firearm in accordance with safety regulations and policies.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
- Applying defensive tactics in accordance with designated appropriate level of force.
- Gathering and organizing data and evidence.
- Maintaining composure and adhering to procedure in emergency situations.
- Communicating clearly, both orally and in writing.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Basic Peace Officer certification.
- Valid State Class C driver's license.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in various indoor and outdoor environments. Possible exposure to potentially hazardous, uncontrollable and life threatening situations. May be in contact with hostile or resistant individuals. Safety procedures must be followed including the use of personal protective equipment.
