JOB SUMMARY
Under general direction, performs maintenance, repairs and minor construction of streets; maintains and installs street signs, and performs maintenance of City facilities.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- ASSISTS in the maintenance, repairs and minor construction of streets.
- DRIVES pickups and dump trucks to and from various job sites.
- USES various types of hand and power tools properly and safely.
- SORTS tools and materials; PERFORMS routine maintenance on vehicles,
tools and equipment used in the maintenance, repair and minor construction
of streets. - OPERATES equipment as needed to load and unload trucks.
- PERFORMS maintenance, cleaning and repair of street and park facilities.
- READS, UNDERSTANDS and FOLLOWS written and oral job
instructions; writes reports by hand, using good judgment and accuracy. - USES good judgment to work safely and use equipment properly.
- Able to HEAR and SEE clearly when working around equipment or in a
street, alley or traffic, using proper safety equipment and precautions. - LIFTS and CARRIES up to 100 lbs; PULLS, PUSHES or DRAGS up to
150 lbs. Of street equipment and/or materials. - CLIMBS, CRAWLS, KNEELS, SQUATS, STOOPS and TWISTS freely
for extended periods of time while performing various maintenance, repairs
or construction. - SITS and STANDS for extended periods of time while performing various
maintenance, repairs or construction. - WORKS INDOORS and OUTDOORS in extreme temperatures, including
heat, cold, temperature swings and inclement weather. - SOME exposure to electrical, mechanical and toxic hazards, using proper
safety equipment and precautions. - WORKS in constant and extreme noise levels routinely encountered in
street maintenance, repair and construction using proper safety equipment. - COMMUNICATES effectively and courteously with other employees and
the public. - OTHER duties as assigned.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, DEGREES, CERTIFICATES AND/OR
LICENSES
High School Diploma or GED; Texas Driver’s License, Class C minimum, Class A
C.D.L. preferred; driving record must be satisfactory to the City of Kaufman
Standards for employee motor vehicle/equipment operator.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Experience in operating various equipment such a riding and push type lawn mowers, tractor mowers, weed eaters, etc.; experience in working safely with various types of
equipment including pumps, generators, backhoes, dump trucks, hand wrenches,
hand and power saws, hammers of various sizes, shovels, drain spades and rakes.
