What are the responsibilities and job description for the Umpire (Adult Softball/Kickball) position at City of Kaukauna?
ADULT SOFTBALL/KICKBALL UMPIRE
Stay in the Game! The City of Kaukauna Recreation Department is looking for Umpires for our adult softball and kickball leagues for spring and summer 2025.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
- Ensure playing fields are prepared and suitable for participants (equipment, lights, lines, secure storage facility, etc.).
- Manage game start and play times in accordance with schedules and weather cancellation policies.
- Interpret and enforce rules of the game, including making decisions for items not specifically covered in the rules.
- Supervise and manage the general conduct of participants.
- Invoke and impose penalties for violations.
- Assist in cleaning up and securing fields at the end of game play.
- Attend training and meetings for the program.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING:
- Must be at least 18 yrs old
- Demonstrated independence and leadership
- Conscience of safety behaviors
- Ability to handle decision making and potential conflicts with professionalism
WHAT MAKES YOU STAND OUT (Preferred Qualifications):
- Previous experience officiating softball/baseball/kickball games
- Knowledge of ASA Legal and Illegal Bat lists
- Knowledge of Kaukauna Recreation Department Adult Softball Rules
- Previous experience as a baseball/softball athlete (JV or higher)
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to stoop, kneel, climb, bend, lift up to 50 pounds, reach, push, and pull
- Ability to sustain prolonged visual concentration
- Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time
- Ability to ensure a variety of weather and temperature conditions for prolonged periods of time
LEAGUE SCHEDULES
Adult softball leagues run from May through August. Kickball will run from September into October.
PAY
$27.73 per game
Uniforms are provided by Kaukauna Recreation Department
