As a Motor Equipment Operator II you will be physically active throughout the day with a variety of duties! This position is responsible for maintaining and repairing City streets sidewalks drainage systems and adjoining vegetation. Duties include patching asphalt roads sealing cracks repairing curbs maintaining and repairing sidewalks (which involves cement and asphalt work) and sweeping streets. Winter duties include plowing and removing snow on streets and sidewalks sanding and salting roads and repairing damage caused by snowplows. Employee will operate moderate to heavy motor equipment service and make minor repairs to equipment operate some light equipment and perform unskilled or semi-skilled laboring tasks. This position also supervises highway work crews when the Highway Foreman is absent! Note: This position is subject to recall and stand-by duty during non-regular working hours weekends and holidays. This position should be able to respond within 60 minutes depending on weather conditions to staff the work site. There is a considerable amount of overtime during winter months. In addition this position is subject to federal commercial driver's license (CDL) drug and alcohol requirements. Minimum qualifications: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three years' related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education/experience. A valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A with tank endorsement required; Level II Roads Scholar Certificate desired. Pay and Benefits: During the 6-month probationary period the pay rate for this position is $22.89 per hour. Upon successful completion of the probationary period this position will move to the regular pay schedule which consists of pay steps and hourly rates ranging from $23.75- $28.32 per hour depending on experience. Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Assist with maintenance and repair of water and sewer mains. This involves locating and diagnosing sewer stoppages; water main leaks; and service breaks.
Maintain fire hydrants.
Plow and remove snow.
Assist with laying out of water and sewer lines.
Maintain truck inspection check sheet.
Mow and maintain lawns. Prune vegetation.
Assist with paving roads.
Possess ability to read blueprints.
Be on-call and available for water and/or sewer work; as scheduled.
Perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs of tools and equipment.
Possess ability to work with power tools and operate heavy equipment.
Sweep streets and sidewalks.
Sand and salt roads.
Perform clean-up after storms to remove trees and downed vegetation from the City streets and the Ashuelot.
Assist with installation; maintenance; and repair of drainage systems.
Prune trees and vegetation.
Perform landscaping duties. This includes raking leaves.
Repair damage caused by snow plows.
Assist with traffic control.
Note: Among the power tools and heavy equipment generally used by this position are lawn mower; chain saw; jackhammer; pipe saw; cement mixer; sidewalk plow; snowblower; one-ton truck; large dump trucks; street sweeper; curb machine; asphalt roller; crack sealing equipment; brush chipper; and brush saw. Also used are pay loaders and backhoes.
Note: This position is subject to stand-by duty and callback during non-regular working hours; week-ends; and holidays. The employee is regularly required to stand; walk; and use hands to finger; handle; or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop; kneel; crouch; or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and smell. The employee will frequently move and/or lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth vision; and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
The noise level is loud to very loud. This position primarily involves work in outdoor weather conditions.
