ONE CURRENT PART-TIME VACANCY

Under regular supervision, supervises all play and recreational activities at assigned playgrounds. Work involves ensuring a safe and healthy place for children to practice sports; coordinating job duties; reporting needed maintenance at facility; overseeing sports events and maintaining scores, statistics, and standings; notifying children and parents of sporting events; registering children for upcoming sports; and serving as a lead worker. Reports to the Zone Manager or assigned supervisor.

Duties of Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Opens gates; walks the playground; oversees playground activities; enforces all Kenner Parks and Recreation Department programs, rules, and policies.

Manages and directs Assistant Supervisors with training of duties.

Ensures equipment is ready and in good shape; performs light cleaning and trash pick up.

Prepares registration forms and identifications.

Works on the infield to ensure readiness.

Settles disputes between groups or individual players regarding use of facilities.

Coordinates use of facilities to prevent players from interfering with one another; schedules practices for teams.

Coordinates leagues; obtains volunteer coaches for sports; meets with coaches prepares rosters for teams.

Informs players of rules concerning dress, conducts, or equipment; enforces or ejects unruly or unauthorized persons as necessary.

Maintains safety and health standards at playgrounds; provides first aid to injured players as necessary.

Maintains records of scores and statistics.

Distributes and collects uniforms and equipment for various sports.

Performs inventory control.

Checks facility for necessary maintenance; completes needed reports. Informs the public of upcoming events.

Completes paperwork to register participants in sports.

Receives and/or reviews various records and reports such as registration of participants, rosters, schedules, memorandums, policy changes, etc.

Prepares and/or processes various records and reports such as scores and statistics, list of participants, accident reports, maintenance reports, work orders, leave requests, schedules, etc.

Refers to rule book for sports, memorandums, rosters, schedules, telephone list, City policy, maps, policy and procedure manuals, computer manuals, codes / laws / regulations, publications and reference texts, etc.

Operates a variety of equipment and machinery such as three wheeler, baseball-pitching machine, computer, copy machine, fax machine, scoreboard clock, telephone, etc.

Uses a variety of tools such as hammer, screwdriver, pliers, broom, dust mop, rake, crankshaft, wheel barrel, pick stick, etc.; and a variety of supplies such as paper, writing instruments, chalk, paint, general office supplies, etc.; and a variety of computer software such as Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, Microsoft Outlook, etc.

Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as Zone Manager, parents, Booster Club, coaches, parents concession staff, Administration, Assistant Playground Supervisors, and the general public.

ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Notifies coaches of cancellation of events.

Observes participants until picked up.

Performs related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Requires a high school diploma or equivalent supplemented by one to two years of experience in recreation programming and/or general administration, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
